I just don't get it. Here's a player who is 24+, clearly can kick goals, is a power forward, and we're saying all the negatives as to why, Freo shouldn't go for it. Free agency is why Sydney and Hawks have sustained success. Fre_doh, clearly drafting talls in recent times, especially since the 2 new clubs joined the league, was never going to snare us a good one. Here's an opportunity to do so, so why all the negative talk. I say go hard, Freo. Bring the boy to Freo, and make it back to back, next year.

McPharlin's a fine, upstanding bloke. A leader with the right stuff. I don't know about Charles Dixon. I just find it interesting that Freo's offer is essentially reported in the press.

BPurple, how does having Dixon in the line-up prolong Pav's career?

Elvis was still a teenager when traded to Freo, as was Judd when drafted by the Slime. Dixon will be 25 before he debuts for Freo.

He is nearer the Gumby profile than Elvis or Judd.

Looking at this season's big 5: Dixon has kicked 0 goals in 4 career games v Freo; 7 goals in 5 games v Slime; 3 goals in 2 games v Hawthorn; 5 goals in 4 games v Sydney and 0 goals in 3 games v Richmond.

Total: 15 goals in 18 games v the big boys.

Worth $3.5milion+ over 5 years?

Out of curiosity, how many goals do you think Pav would kick if playing in Dixon's place for that Suns teams against that opposition?

Maybe Pav would hang around for the extra year as his would load could be considerably less. I saw Dixon was rucking on Saturday too.
Apeness and Taberner are still a few kilos light, his presence, should he remain injury free makes their development less scrutinised.

Pav was a teenager and Mcpharlin was on Hawthorns list for two years, both came into an established side in a football state, Dixon is playing in a new franchise side in bumf#!k Qld. He has done alright being a kid surrounded by kids, has been asked to lead a forward line from a young age and is just finding his feet. His injuries compared to Gumby's have been minor and relatively short term. Approaching 25 he is coming into his prime and one would hope he has left his injuries behind him, I don't have a crystal ball telling me how his injuries will go in the future but neither does anyone else. I will also ask again who better out there is up for grabs?

Put your finger on it bpurple: no other tall around wants to come west. Considering that, the salary doesn't look over the top.
And talking of indiscretions (earlier posts), I would have turned a blind eye to Darling's as a teenager instead of grabbing Pitt about eight picks before him. Would have save us years of hunting for a replacement for Pav. Darling has proved to be squeaky clean and hopefully Charlie would come up as good over here.

Has he or his management stated any interest in coming here? He's from Qld and I thought Brisbane were going to offer big bucks to get him.

Luke was a WA boy coming home, we have had plenty of experience of trading for east coast boys who got over here then missed their mum/gf/bf/dad or puppy, can anyone guarantee he is here for the long haul?

Why go to Brizzy for big bucks to play in what could be a worse team than you are already in? The Lions current coach/team has bled players (and looks like losing Aishe and Luenberger this season) and not done a lot to turn their indifferent style around. Freo on the other hand (despite "expert opinions" the same experts that had us struggling to stay in the top 8) has plenty of up-side and could be the next powerhouse team with a few minor tweaks. Surely players will play for a flag or some kind of success, rather than say they played twelve years for cellar dwellers, but they were close to home.
Big bucks and a shot at a flag or big bucks and another rebuild with a knew coach in twelve months time.

Morgan, in 13 of those games Dixon had Ablett kicking the ball to him. His returns: 0,0,1,0,0,3,0,1,0,0,2,3 and 2 = 12 goals from 13 games.

In 8 of those games he had Ablett and Harley Bennell kicking the ball to him. Total: 11 goals in 8 games.

Pavlich in a similar performing team at a similar age:
2005 (10th): 19 goals in 6 games v top 4 teams.
2007 (11th): 22 goals in 7 games v top 4 teams.

BPurple, Pav is very unlikely to continue next year regardless of whatever happens this year or whoever we recruit for next year.

When dealing with a teenager, their injury problems may well be over early.

When dealing with a mid 20's player, their injury problems have a tendency to persist forever. Shoulder injuries are one thing, bad ankles and leg problems are another kettle of fish altogether, especially for a team who relies on constant running.

Dixon comes with a high price tag both in terms of dollars and trade dealings. We will need to give up a quality player (not a de Boer or Suban) + a high draft pick. Who do you propose?

It's all probably moot anyway. Dixon is very unlikely to be interested in coming to WA, we're being used as a leverage tool again.

Granted we will need to trade high picks, but our seconds are full of young kids who are either developing or cant force their way into the team because of established players, we need draft picks like a hole in the head. As for money, anyone worth taking a punt on is going to cost and know one so far has put up a better candidate who is available at the end of the year.
Nothing is guaranteed when taking on new KPP's just ask the Swans how the Tippet deal is going, and I am sure if he had said he was keen to come over to Freo we would have moved heaven and earth to get him. The Hawks model shows that you draft in KPP's and if they don't work move em on. If we are failing to secure the people we want then we as a club are doing something wrong, WCE don't seem to have that problem.
