TOPIC: Charles Dixon

I think we need someone who whacks blokes. Dixon would get suspended from time to time, but we all know that Fyfe, like the Hulk, is always holding back a burning desire to whack someone who deserves it (and some who don’t). As a coach, wouldn’t you want to be able to say to Fyfe “mate you’re too important to get suspended. Let [insert player] take care of it.” We don’t have an [insert player]. Sure, we have brave players, and big players, but we don’t have a loose cannon to put the fear into the more timid opposition players. It used to be McPhee throwing his weight around. The best we have is Ballas, and he has no weight, and we don’t really get value for his suspensions.

Couldn't we bring back Kiwi Campbell for that role?

Dean Solomon, ranga hunter.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I would like for Dean to have another go at Ling, preferably live on air while he is rabbiting on and pretending he's a commentator.

I would prefer he took his first couple at Hudson, Russell and Zempilas.

Just thought I'd bring this back to the front page in light of his 7 goal effort.

Guess we're desperate to land someone, anyone, if today's news story is to be believed.

Fremantle lead charge to sign Suns’ Charlie Dixon

The Australian

Fremantle have emerged as the frontrunners from the pack of clubs chasing Gold Coast forward Charlie Dixon and have so far presented the richest in-principle deal to the management of the out-of-contract Suns forward.

In negotiations with Dixon’s Queensland-based agent, the Dockers have trumped any offer Brisbane will be prepared to pay, by promising to deliver on a five-year deal for him to move west for between $700,000 and $750,000 a year, pending a fitness assessment.

Interesting. He's kicked 2.7 goals a game this year for a team that has sucked, so obviously he can play. Seems like a a bit of an overpay, but I'm not sure how you get KPPs in their prime capable of kicking a few goals a game without overpaying.

This is the same Dixon who was born in Queensland, has lived in Queensland all his life, currently plays for a Queensland team and is being actively courted by the only other Queensland team?

The same Dixon who has never played more than 14 games in any one season of his career (persistent ankle and groin injuries will do that - won't his body love constantly running up and down the expanses of Subi Oval)?

The same Dixon who's not clever enough to realise, when breaking team rules, it's not wise to send the mini bar bill to the football club who is paying your salary?

The same Dixon who boasts a career average of 1.39 goals per game and did SFA against the Slime on Saturday?

The same Dixon who is not a free agent and will require a very substantial trade (good player + high draft pick) to get the job done?

What could possibly go wrong here?

Fre_Doh, you put it very nicely. I have a feeling that since the specifics were released, that it's just a ploy to try and get Brisbane to up their offer.

I remember Freo picking up a bloke called McPharlin who was a young tall traded because of groin problems and an inability to string games together. That worked out OK, I also recall a number of teams passing on a bloke called Judd because of shoulder problems and didn't they look silly. Even the mercurial Pav and Sandi have missed large chunks of seasons due to injury.
My point is if you are going to take a punt on a KPP who has had some injuries, get one who can play and has the potential to come good injury wise, rather than a bloke at the end of his career looking to top up his retirement plan. Dixon in our team extends Pav's playing life by a season, allows our young blokes to put on some bulk and ease into being KPP, he also is the skilled monster we need up forward able to contest the high ball and kick goals. If we can get him take him, who else is available?
As for his glass of wine, its not like he was running around a Las Vegas Hotel of his nut on illegal substances.
