In terms of this year's draft, there hasn't been a huge amount of football just yet so there's a lot to shake out with the draft. Based mostly on performances from players last year, the top end is very midfield heavy and Victorian. The WA contingent is not particularly strong. Someone could pop out but they'd have to improve dramatically this year.
There are also a lot of father son and academy prospects once again who will push draft picks out. I'm almost always in preference to using our draft picks opposed to trading them but with the current state of our list on the precipice of big things, now is the perfect time to top up the list with young talent aged similarly to our existing players. McDonald is in that rare air of being a West Aussie who is very talented, plays a position we are in need of, is the perfect age and out of contract while we have a good draft hand. I wouldn't use 3 first round picks on him but depending on how he develops this season, 2 picks could be worthwhile.
Similarly, there are strong rumours about Warner's desire to head home but prying a contracted player at his age is incredibly difficult. The only way it happens is if we throw too much draft capital and he begs the Swans with the homesick excuse.
The other options this season are either not possible or I'm not interested.
