I see Jeremy Finlayson is in
trouble for dissent
These things always intrigue me as to how we, as a society, decide on right and wrong. Even on this site there were comments, I believe in good humour, about the late Polly and his Trannie. For regulars on the forum, it was obvious, to me, that we were talking about a "transistor radio". Meant in good humour and hopefully no one was offended by it.
But if the joke is allowed, where do we draw the line.
Allowable insults to include words like Scoundrel, Cad, Bounder, Rascal, Rogue, Eagle and Knave?
An Orwellian committee on allowable terms, gestures and phrases?
An investigation every time someone feels insulted?
A sure sign of my age but I would much rather be the recipient of a homophobic slur than to have Tom Hawkins land on me in a marking contest.
I am more than comfortable with the "sorry mate", it was a heat of the moment thing and what I said was a reflection of my own frustration, rather than were we seem to be heading at the moment.
Even the old "what happens on the footy field, stays on the footy field", has more merit than what I think is a relatively dangerous path we are going down.
For clarity, I am not a Social Democrat.
