I reckon Rory Lobb might not be worth a first round pick but we could move up the order a bit. Like swap Pick 22 and Lobb for Pick 13.. Or Lobb and pick 8 for pick 2.. Something like that.. Thats not asking a heap and I reckon they don't need a mid so that pick 2 is not really worth that much to them compared with 8 where they could get Mac Andrew or Josh Gibcus

Colin Young is notorious for these sort of shenanigans. Great if you're one of his clients but all clubs be very cautious dealing with this man. He's not shy at stirring up a bit of trouble outside of Trade period.

How are we being placed in a " Trade him for anything" situation here? Lobb is contracted for another 2 years just tell GWS go jump or come up with a fantastic offer. We do not need to do anything here. Pick 13 plus a take over his salary and a future 2nd round pick otherwise goodbye.

Looking at everything that's come from Peter Bell in recent days, I sense that from the Freo end there is a very big feeling of being betrayed by Rory and Colin Young over this saga. It's the second time in 3 years that they are trying to break a long term, big money contract and probably the reason why GWS are only prepared to offer him a 3 year deal. And, for Mushy's benefit the talk from most regarding Rory's performances in the last 2 years is that it he has been very inconsistent and needing to improve his game as I've been pointing out.. That's fine for a young developing player on a moderate salary but if you're one of the highest paid players at the club consistency of performance and effort is essential.

Bell told 6PR.
“(Young) said there was an offer coming that we would want to look at and I said, ‘look it’s not something that we’re going to be really interested in and we don’t want to trade Rory.

“We’re really keen to keep Rory and as it turned out, about half an hour ago (on Thursday evening), Colin rang me and said ‘what’s come through (from GWS) doesn’t look like it will get anything done so we'll come back and we're looking forward to him playing and we'll work through that.’"


Sounds like GWS want him out and his manager wants a cut if it happens is all there is to me.

I think, DBTS, from what I've heard prior to the trade period, JLo was pretty keen on Finn Callaghan in the draft. Can't remember where I saw it. Maybe on club site a couple of weeks ago when asked about the coming draft.

For the record, I suspect a trade will probably happen, but I take umbrage to supporters latching onto soundbytes and inflating them into something bigger than is real. In this case “Rory wants out”, “Rory is inconsistent”, “Rory is overpaid”, “Rory is not committed enough” and so on – indeed, being suckered into doing exactly what the player managers are trying to get you to do – which, if you think about it rationally, will leave your club worse off.

Yes I think it's a real shame Lobbs wants out, he makes things easier for mid fielders under pressure. You can kick a high one and it's very rare that we don't break even with him in the marking contest. He close to seven foot tall and takes a great mark.

Need to be flexible in accommodating rare talent, otherwise they up and leave. And it seems an easy problem to solve.

Despite what some may think I rate Lobb as a player for us and believe he is critical. That is why we offered him well above what other clubs would’ve. Even GWS are talking about reducing his wage to 500k.
It’s a higher first rounder for me. Losing him shifts our ability to genuinely contend back at least a couple of years, as we need to develop any big forwards we recruit.

I completely understand his importance to us Mushroom and realise it will leave a big hole in our forward line if and when he goes. It does seem obvious that he doesn't want to be here though and we need decent compensation.
I also didn't see the discussion on Lobb leaving as any different than the same scenario for Cerra but don't remember you being upset about that before he made his intentions clear.
