TOPIC: Neale

Lost track of the thread where somebody compared our success at draft/trade time to Brisbane’s.
Seriously they finished 13th or worse from 2013, and bottom of the table at least once. This gives them at least six top ten picks in that time compared to our three. I think there were four bottom four finishes.
If this is the model we want to follow we have another three drafts and will also need the AFL to jump in and support us, in a similar way to how they supported Brisbane in appointing Fagan.
Neale is a great player, always has been a great player but we needed forwards, and unfortunately you have to give something to get something. It may be an indicator of how good we really are that the only real trade value we had was Neale or Fyfe.
Despite the fact that Lyon can’t improve players this year we have numerous players that other clubs are interested in. Blakeley, Langdon, Darcy, Hill (who has played the best footy of his career at Freo).
We could have traded Fyfe, received even greater compensation, and made Neale Captain. Any takers.

He is not quite a Shuey in for the Brownlow, which would be worse to me.

We have a history of trading away our best picks. Nevertheless, you've illustrated how we don't have a half bad list, after turning over multiple players who have been used to their strengths at other clubs. They know they're getting someone who works hard in pre-season to get themselves in good AFL shape. But put on the purple and they struggle to find their feet. I do hope we build through the draft, good fast players. One day this might all come together we live in hope.

DBTS, to quote you;

Seems to point to the fact that it is the coach, & system not the list that is the problem. As for your assertion that we need forwards, we have a list full of forwards who were successful at other clubs (the reason why we recruited them) but who can not get a goal to save themselves at Freo. Again a pointer to something other than the lack of forwards being the problem.

No I didn’t say we need forwards, we needed forwards that is why the Neale trade was necessary.
We gained two Lobb who has added considerable value and Hogan who isn’t on the park but our form has dropped markedly since he got injured.

Neale left. Trades resulting from that were not part of the planning.

Fremantle were so angry about Neale leaving that they complained to the AFL about the house he bought, claiming it was evidence of salary cap rorting.

Yeah I’m not privy to what went on behind the scenes. I can surmise but at the end of the day we needed forwards and because of Neale leaving we were able to achieve this.

Bingo Shane about Ballantyne and Sandipants.

Said it last year, neither taking us to the promised land. Harsh but was the right call.

Clarko wouldn't stand for it.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken but nowhere in this nightmare list have I seen WEAGLES WIN THE FLAG AGAIN.
Surely this is number one on any nightmare menu?

One nightmare at a time DJ. I'd hand them 1000 flags, if we could just get our act together.
Good on Lachie Neale. And Crozier, DeBoer, Mayne etc. even Cameron Sutcliffe. All have proved - unfortunately - that moving to a better team gives them far more opportunities to resurrect their career. Expect others to follow.

The danger is that someone of Luke Ryan's stature goes. That's F'in B-S right there. That we can even entertain that possibility in 2019 is a massive failure of the Steve era and its bright marketing ideas.
The entire admin needs to go. Except perhaps Bell. Then the board can jump out of the window after them.

Then save our draft picks to use on the best young WA talent. The best. That is a rebuild.

You missed my point, DBTS, we now have the forwards we needed, but we are no better off, they are not producing the output they were at their previous clubs So the lack of forwards was not our real problem.

Hogan looks to be having a very similar second half of the year with us as he did Melbourne last year.
I hope for his sake he is carrying out his due diligence and getting a second medical opinion to the one being suggested at the club.
Maybe he should give Harley a call.
Lobb has had a ver good year and settled in well.
I thought Hogan was building quite well before his injury. Tom Lynch is only really blossoming recently
