I reckon these rumors come about because there are likely open conversations between club and players/managers, whereby the club needs currency for trade and asks players who’d go where. Eg, last year we needed to get Jesse so the club talks to players with currency, like B Hill and Lachie and says “are you open to moving, and if so, where?”. Brad probably said “if you’re gonna trade me, I only want to go to Hawks”. Same for Ballas a couple of years back, he would’ve said “I’m training horses here, if you’re gonna trade me, it has to be WC”.
Unimaginative hacks like Hagdorn like to spin this into “Hill has requested a trade”.
I think that’s what Ross meant by “context etc” when addressing this.
