I've never knocked our late selections of players, it's always been pretty good and I was happy to see the chance taken on Ryan. He looked like a quality player at VFL level and has proven to be just as good in the big leagues. If your intent is for me to heap praise on RL for the club selecting Ryan, that's probably not gonna happen.

As for Ryan's impact and output on the field, RL can take some credit but mature age players tend to come a little more ready made and established. I don't think the coaching has had too much to do with his development as a player, he was producing from his first game. I would be leaning towards RL limiting his performance by assigning him more defensive roles and instilling defensive tactics.

I personally think Wilson is the best lock down small with his pace and bravery in the air able to limit the best small forwards in the comp. The problem is he's also our most damaging on the counter. I don't rate Nyhuis as highly as other people either.

I have high hopes Carter can be that player in a couple of years but that's still a long way off.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I totally agree with this Corp. He keeps small forwards totally accountable.

I know some here were calling for Alex Pearce's head in the latter part of last season, but forgive me for noticing that he really did try and have a dash from the backline on occasions. I really liked it. But I guess it was all his own idea...

Luke Ryan is just one of a few that will become superstars under Roly’s tutelage. I said this before LN was pick 40+, and he’s turned out alright. Cerra, Brayshaw, Banfield, Crowden, Cox are just the tip of the iceberg that’s gonna melt some mouths. The last 3 years have been a period of getting all the pieces of the jigsaw. Now it’s time to put them together.

Mightily wearisome to keep hearing of all these old colleagues and mates of Lyon's who bang on about what a genius and all round good, talent nurturing bloke he is. What do Sydney and Saints supporters have to say about him?

And 'one bad bounce from a GF' So freaking what. Is this really the high benchmark we apply to his career and ability?
Simpson has been in the coaching game far less time, and got better results.

Probably because he inherited nirvana.

That's a bit rough on Simpson, Drubbing. He should not be singled out like that. Hardwick, Scott and Beveridge have also been in the coaching game for far less time and also done better.
And for the matter so have Buckley and Pyke to achieve the same outcome as Roly.

By 'inheriting nirvana' I'm guessing you mean a team that was performing poorly and getting beaten regularly.

Simpson came in and his comment was the egurls were fit enough but had poor skills. So that was Simpson's focus.

Once he had made a difference there, we have not beaten them once and he's coached them to a flag. Compare that to a coach who claims he 'doesn't coach skills' and how many flags has he won? He's a bloke who claims 'failure is feedback' yet refuses to learn from his mistakes and refuses to adjust his approach.

He is just not a success story no matter how you try to spin it.

From what I've heard, he's yet to fail. Hence the lack of feedback.

Possibly Shane, but from what I get told on here on a regular basis is that he actually isn't responsible for anything.

Perhaps that's why he hasn't failed yet
