I agree Biz we should just harvest draft picks for a few years and maybe endure a little pain as members for an actual chance at winning a flag rather than just being stuck in the middle part of the ladder. I see value in Conca because he won't cost any draft picks. Also I reckon he's a bit tougher than a lot of our players who are a little soft and don't tackle.
You have to question Lobb's character a little bit. He doesn't want to ruck apparently. Doesn't like big guys crashing into him and is not aggressive enough to ruck. You would think at 207cm maybe he should have chose to play basketball.

Who'd have thunk that Dockerlanders would not want Lobb because we already have an abundance of big key forwards.

Bizkit on that logic Fyfe won’t be around for our next tilt at a premiership.

I don’t think we need him, but we could always use him. That’s not a bad position to be in as you approach a negotiation.

There's much more longevity in Fyfe for a number of reasons.

Back issues are a major problem to overcome, especially as a tall player who spends time in the ruck and that will curtail Lobb's career. It's probably part of the reason he doesn't want to ruck which decreases his value significantly for mine.

Lobb would also need to add something good to the side in the later stages of his career and I don't see him being in our best 22 at that point with the potential of other kids coming through. Add 3/4yrs to Cox, Dixon and potentially Lukosius/King twins and there's no room for him anymore. That and Apeness is effectively the same player but 2 and a half years younger. Fyfe could play on in a forward pocket as he ages and still be a massive influence in the 22, easily earning his spot on talent alone.

I have no doubt Lobb adds value next season and probably the one after but I don't see us being mature enough to challenge for at least 3 more years given we're pinning a lot of hopes on kids just drafted. When they are about 22/23yo's is when they'll really blossom and have the legs for a full season of AFL football.

Until then, we're just sitting in the middle of the table throwing away prized draft picks at middle aged players and stretching out or inhibiting the rebuild.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Snooze, Darcy is certainly not trade bait but we all need to be concerned in this day and age of the go home factor.

Bizkit I’m not so sure Fyfe has much more longevity than Lobb. What I was more concerned about though was Lobb not being around for our next premiership tilt. I would hope that by 2021 we would’ve getting close and Lobb will only be 29 then.

Considering Mundy and Sandi (and Ballas) will be gone at that point, Sonny 31, Hill 32 and Fyfe 30 on the downhill slide along with Neale possibly gone, there's a lot of our best players all out or diminishing in output.

There's not a lot yet to play who look capable of replacing them with similar skill levels or ability which means the side won't be rocketing up the ladder any time soon. We need a proper influx of talented kids similar to 2008-10 to set us up for a few years. Unfortunately, we've trade a lot of good picks away for more middle aged players and despite grabbing a large number of kids, we haven't grabbed the top quality kids that set up a side for a long stint at the top.

Last year we managed two high picks which are a good start but we need more for a couple of years to really pad out the squad with talent. Those second round picks we keep trading away will hurt us, more so if we go chasing Lobb again.

Cerra and Brayshaw are the building blocks of our next premiership run so we need to find more talented kids to support and help them, it's as simple as that for mine. Anything else is temporary improvement at the cost of our future.

Get two top six draft picks in this draft and in three years time we'll be knocking on the door. With or without Lachie Neale.

Grab Lobb with next years 2nd & 3rd round picks. Stick him in the fwd line as a forward only who pinch hits in the ruck when it's down there. Keep him in the fwd line and both him and Tabs will make a formidable presence and then surely we'll start to see the best of Mcarthy and will give more time for Cox to shine too.

Try to put it into this context.

You get to pick one of these current players at their current age to play as a big key forward for the next 4 years

1. Tom Hawkins
2. Jack Riewoldt
3. Eric Hipwood
4. Lance Franklin
5. Charlie Kurnow
6. Jarryd Roughhead
7. Charlie Dixon
8. James Stewart
9. Paddy McCartin
10. Josh Bruce
11. Mason Cox
12. Darcy Moore
......or Rory Lobb.

Only Eric Hipwood or Charlie Kurnow might be (barely) ahead of Rory Lobb.

Also this from only 2 years ago: 8 contested marks against Hawthorn

Big men take longer to develop - he is only getting better.
