TOPIC: DSLR cameras into MCG

I was wondering if anybody knew of restrictions in bringing DSLR cameras into AFL games? I recall seeing a sign at Subi a while back saying something along the lines of that you couldn't bring in a professional camera? I think that the lens size helped determine whether you could bring the camera in?

But given some of the game pics that get posted here, people must get in to games with reasonable cameras & lenses.

I lug a DSLR around in the bottom of my backpack, and am trying to avoid getting to the MCG and not being able to get in cos of the camera. I'm tossing up whether to risk it just leave it in the room. FWIW, it has a 18-135 lens on it.

Thanks.

From memory, the AFL allows DSLR cameras up with lenses up to 200mm in focal length, so your 18-135 should be OK - provided of course that you get a gate steward who knows the rules and doesn't just say 'no professional cameras' as happened to me a few years back.

If you have a crop sensor camer (such as a 600D or D7000) that 200mm lens will give you a field of view equivalent to between 300 and 320mm. I've not tried to shoot the footy since the incident above - Heather may be able to give some pertinent advice here if need be.

I'll be taking my olympus omd em-5 to the game. Looks more like a point and shoot so should be ok.

I'm gonna try and resist taking too many shots at the game. Would like to experience it through my eyes not a lens..... Will be a challenge.....

I've been to the mcg twice and never had an issue getting the camera in. As stated, they really are more concerned with the size of your lens. Mine is 200ml and I'm frequently proving that to the fine security staff at subi oval. You should have no problems.
