Footscray's Adam Cooney has won the old Victorian Best & Fairest Medal in a lacklustre field that saw him take it from a middle aged full forward and a bloke in Queensland. It's not the first time a ranga from the Bulldogs has won the medal in that sort of circumstances so Bulldogs hierarchy were quick to move Cooney on from the Crown Casino once the award had been presented. Despite being a medal traditionally given out to midfielders from VFL clubs, a quick flick through the rules would show that Fremantle players are actually eligible, despite 14 years of voting which would suggest otherwise. True to his genius though, Matthew Pavlich polled 17 votes in what All Australian selectors seemed to think was a poor season for him.
