Some New, Fresh, Bold Blokes The Gold Coast and an early spurt of form in 2010 saw Fremantle making more a cameo role in the draft this year but history will show that the Dockers usually snare some bargains, even with limited resources. While the Gold Coast, the Eagles and a couple of other dud football clubs ponced about counting backwards from 10-1 for no discernible reason, Mark Harvey tried not to look lonely without Chris Scott while the work experience kids vied for a position on the front desk to cal out the draft selection. A moment's silence was held for Andrew Gaff, after the Eagles picked him up at number 4 and then Fremantle set about preparing for their first selection.
Road to the Flag 2011 Over the past few seasons, West Australians have made it fairly obvious to the AFL, through attendances, that they don't really care for oddly timed Saturday afternoon games as a whole. With that in mind, the new fixtures are out and Fremantle have been given 11 games on a Saturday. As is tradition, they will also have to fly to Sydney to play the Swans, head up to Brisbane to play the Lions, play both South Australian teams in South Australia and, in a new addition to the schedule, will travel in both the first and last rounds. Thankfully the AFL have been kind enough to send Fremantle to the MCG in 2011, 3 times no less, but all the matches will be played in the first half of the season and two of them will be played before midday Fremantle time.
Trading is Cool Again Youth policies, rebuilding, focussing on the draft - they're the sorts of things you say when you can't get a trade done, so you won't be hearing any of that sort of touchy feeling stuff from Fremantle this year. Jubilant over their top 6 finish this year, Fremantle have gone into top up mode and hit the trade tables hard over the past week, confident that they could uncover some previously uncovered gems born in the mid 1980's, while at the same time unloading some dead wood on an unsuspecting Collingwood to try and bring the premiers down a peg.
