Freo's Undefeated Premiership Campaign Hits a Snag

They’re calling it one of the great tactical maneuvers of all time, with Ross Lyon not even prepared to reveal a sceric of Fremantle’s game plan to Hawthorn so early in the season, whilst simultaneously getting important reconnaissance with a close up look at exactly how the Hawks midfield and forward line operate. Fremantle didn’t fire a shot against the Hawks, kicking just 2 goals in the first half and letting the Hawks get out to a ten goal lead before Rick Ardon even had time to chose which pin striped suit he’d wear while reading the six o’clock news. Fremantle gradually approached a point close to competence in the second half but the Hawks were keen to, some might say rather tackily, drive the point home regarding the outcome of the previous counter between the two teams at the end of last September to win by 58 points. One positive for Fremantle was that Matthew Pavlich was sighted after a couple of weeks on the missing persons list, kicking 4 goals and looking just about ready to begin the season.

Fyfeless Fremantle Return to Ground Zero

Fremantle head back to the MCG this weekend to take on the reigning premiahh...premierrrhem….premier of Victoria for several years during the 1990s’ favourite team. Many are calling it a Grand Final rematch but Ross Lyon has clearly identified it as a Grand Final preview, cleverly keeping several of his key players from view without running foul of the new anti-tanking laws. Nat Fyfe was told to test out the new head clash rules last week and get suspended, Michael Barlow made up a story about how his titanium knee was malfunctioning and Zac Dawson had a thing on so they let him stay home. Keeping things low key and not wanting to arouse suspicion, the usual suspects have come in with Garrick Ibbotson returning from injury, Lachie Neale being brought in because the game falls on an even numbered date and Alex Silvagni agreeing to pay for his flight over if Ross gives him a game. Luke Hodge is out for the Hawks with Sam Mitchell back in, but expected to wear some special spots goggles in case Nik Suban’s fingers get busy again.
