Sum up Fremantle's during-the-game vindication of the before-the-game standard set by the AFL in not permitting or encouraging the dweeb who pushes the siren button to hold off for five seconds while one of the greatest servants of the game over the past decade and a half finished his fairwell speech.

The players took the same attitude into the second half. Doing it just because we have to not because we wnat to.

If Peter Bell was truthful in saying he had asked the players for a special effort, he must have had tears in his eyes when the players preempted the crowd by themselves leaving at 3/4 time. It was disgraceful. Maybe it depends on your definition of "special", but I doubt they thought that deeply about it.
