draft day 2008 goes like this: Pick #1 - Melbourne - Daniel Rich Pick #2 - West Coast - Nick Naitanui Pick #3 - Frema.... what do we do? do we take Watts, chuck him in the same cell we're keeping murphy and campbell? if nothing else, we could trade Watts to GC for a good price...
I'm going to jump in before dddocker can and say that Hamish Hartlett would be a good option. Steele Sidebottom has the right sort of name and reputation to become a docker. Ziebell maybe? what should we do? I've searched the site but there is no magnetic board that caters for this dilemma...

I don't think you'll be able to just ship whoever you like off to the Gold Coast. Look at what Warnock did last week. The players have control, not the clubs.

Don't be surprised if Natanui goes to Melbourne. They lost Jeff White and didn't get Warnock. Although Natanui is a long way from being an AFL ruckman they have to get some height at some stage and Natanui would give them something to look forward to (if they survive long enough). While it may not be the obvious pick it isn't beyond the realms of possibility. This would then leave WCE with Rich and Freo looking at Watts and then having to hold him.

Look people Watts will be going to Melbourne otherwise he would not have nominated for the draft. He wants to finish his schooling in Victoria.

But you are not allowed to influence the draft are you?.

Hamish Hartlett. By the length of the straight.

I can't see the dees taking Rich, only Watts or maybe Naitanui.
On Hartlett: "Had a brilliant couple of years at underage level, as well as with West Adelaide, where he played some terrific games at senior level. Some of his best work is in the centre of the ground, an elite kick, someone who hits the target" - which is probably more than you can say for Palmer (not knocking him at all, but his kicking could use some improvement) - "and that’s probably one of the main things clubs are after. A very poised player, certain to be a first round draft choice. "
Get him. Or Hill.

yeah i agree with you lambchops, melbourne wont pick up rich. with nietz retireing and robertson near the end of his career they'll defentley pick up watts, a local boy.
west coast have always said they would pick up rich so maybe well'll get naitanuie. but yarran or ballyntyne would be good, we need a small forward now the wiz has gone.

I'm not hearing a lot of love for frontbottom.
(I mean Sidebottom.
even if it's only one game (32 touches, 10 goals, 3 behinds, 3 goal assists (in a grand final no less)), the proposition of him re-capturing that form regularly is thrilling.
If he only saves you once a year, it's a good year (for freo).)

Phil Smart will certainly be made to earn his money leading up to draft day. We've got 6 picks inside the top 56 and a minimum of 9 players to replace.
Here's hoping he picks up more of the likes of Chris Chopper Mayne in the 40's and 50's.
My favoured policy is to simply draft the best kid available - if that turns out to be Watts, then pick him up, but there's no way Melb will pass on him anyway.
If it turns out 1 Rich, 2 Nat (or vice verca) then I'm on the Hamish bandwagon.

I too am on the Hamish bandwagon. If he's not available, who was the ranga playing in the WAFL GF? He went alright. I can't recall his name but I remember it being the same as a past wiggle.

Freobear - I think you mean Todd Banfield. I am also very impressed by this kid but I am hoping we can get him in the 3rd or 4th round. He is very hard at it and the ball seems to follow him - good skills also
