Player managers won't let players just slip into the pre season draft and leave a club without any compensation. When has that happened? It didn't happen with Judd and it didn't happen with Jeff White. Its not in anyone's long term interest. I think Warnock will stay with Freo.

Player managers are there to do/get what is best for the players (hence the name 'player' manager). While I am sure they are considerate, I don't think they are overly concerned about what happens to the clubs. No, it didn't happen with Judd or White. I will give you one example though... 2003, Nick Stevens - Out of ocntract with Port, wanted to go to Colliwobbles, no trade could be agreed, ended up Blue following the preseason draft. (NB Carlton got in before the Pies could). Port Adelaide got nothing!!

That is because port would not deal with the pies. Opted to let stevens go for nothing so the pies would miss out. A bit stupid an stubborn really??
But in Warnock's case Melbourne hold all the Aces because they are going to finish last.
The best we could hope for if he does want to leave is he does not name a specific club an we can take multiple offers.
Fingers Crossed he stays with us anyway I think he will be a great mobile ruckman when he matures.

Very dissappointed that c connolly ambushed ffc with regard to warnock. I know he has to look after his melbourne club but I expected a bit more decency from him in dealing with his former club.

The other problem for us would be that Melbourne offer warnock a deal that no other club can match and then we would be at their mercy. In saying this tho, I heard something about Melbourne having to reduce its total player payments as part of some funding deal with the AFL.
Richmond offered simmonds a good deal.

There's no sentimentality in this competition and I've got no problems with CC trying to improve his present employer's list. Nor would I have a problem with Warnock leaving, should he do so.
But I still don't think he will. Unless he desperately wants to be in Melbourne, why would you want to go to richmond or Carlton instead of playing with Freo? Neither Richmond nor Carlton looks like being a serious threat in coming years — at the very least neither of them looks any more threatening than we do.
Which leaves the Dees, who hold a single ace: robbie's brother. Now I'm sure the pull of playing with his brother must be strong, but he'd have to weigh that against being in a team that would be unlikely to make the WAFL Top 4 in the next 5 yrs, let alone Top 8 in the AFL. Who'd wanna be numero uno tall guy in a team that didn't have a hope?
Of course, Robbie could be convinced by some flashy powerpoint presentation that one of the teams I've mentioned is going to be a real contender in the short to medium term, and that Freo's going nowhere ... so it's time to jump ship.
But if we've got someone on our list who'd be willing even to sit through, let alone to be persuaded by, a powerpoint presentation, then I want him drop-kicked out of here faster than you can say 'good riddance'!

Player managers can't be seen to be burning clubs in the trading period, what goes around comes around. If he goes we will be compensated.

Like Macca's farewell. Just another hard-headed business decision from those Bastards in charge.

Hang on, I think I've been misunderstood. Probably didn't express it clearly.
I'm as sentimental as the next poster here, but I've got nothing to do with the AFL. I'm a fan, and I'm a fan precisely because I'm sentimental about footy. But the AFL's a multi-million dollar business. It's got no more room for sentimentality than the bank down the road has. Just like a bank or any other profit-driven corporation, though, the AFL's perfectly happy to make it seem like it's sentimental — for branding and marketing purposes.
I got really teary during the Macca lovefest, too. But that whole pre-packaged spontaneity thing didn't exactly feel like it was awfully spontaneous. And I dread to think, for Macca's sake, what it would have felt like had we lost the Derby, since half the crowd wouldn't have still been there.
So, call me a cynic, but I don't think Warnock will stay or go for sentimental reasons. He'll make what he thinks is a good business decision, either way. Just as Freo thinks it would be in our best business interests to keep him.
That's all I was saying. Plus I was trying to crack a joke. But, never mind.

It would help if shane allowed the smiley icons, but he thinks they're naff. Better to be the Thomas Pynchon of footy sites; did he mean that, or was there another level of understanding just below the surface, or is he just playing with you and it was meant to be read just as it was written.
As always, with lemon, the answer is yes. And no.
I don't expect any sentimentality from Warnock; He's been here 5 minutes. He's a kid. He's from Victoria and clubs over there will suggest they'll back up a ute full of money in his front yard.
I don't really care one way or t'other. I haven't seen enough of him to make me think we need to keep him, the way the media seem to think we need him. If he wants to stay good on him, but somehow I don't see it.

I'm very sentimental - would like to see Davey in purple; toss in a Wheatley for good measure and a solid 60m kick out of the backline.
If it's going to be the Dees - ok, let's talk turkey Chris!

Does anyone know anything more about these milkshakes? Like where can you get the best milkshake in Freo?
Personally, I'd like to see the golden handshake replaced by the golden milkshake.

CC would really be able to sell the merits of playing for Melbourne.
"I built a squad capable of winning a premiership at Freo and now I'm doing it at Melbourne. You, Robbie have the unique opportunity of being a part of both. And Garry Lyon is me mate."
