Understand your point completely Rogerbelly but as members and supporters I think we need to acknowledge the risks the club is taking when we draft interstate kids. Like any form of gambling sometimes you win, sometimes you lose - it's our choice as a club to do that but I reckon it's a bit rich to be berating these kids when they want to go home when it wasn't there choice to come here in the first place.
Unless they're superstars - and that's exceedingly difficult to pick, when it comes to draft time I'd rather we invest in the local product.

Unfortunately, given the dearth of good ruckmen in the AFL, a young bloke like Warnock with an inflated opinion of his own ability but with the short term future of being a back up at his club to an outstanding first pick, will be a target, especially a Vic yearning for the Yarra. Melbourne lost Simmonds and Jolly, Brisbane lost Wood. I wonder if Warnock will become another Wood or Ackland, not quite cutting it as the main act.
For a bloke who’s done little and is only learning the caper trying to fast track his career without “paying his dues” may be short term gain for long term pain. There are plenty of ruckmen who did the same running around in the VFL.
It’s good to see that apparently Fremantle didn’t go mad with the money to hold him.

You're right oos. If he's 'worth' a million over three years before he's even done anything, what will he be wanting when he has?

I know it is stating the blooming obvious but Karl Langdon is an idiot. He has got his head up his backside if he can't see that he is biased. He just said that Freo should be happy to accept a straight swap with Warnock for Shaun Hampson. He tried to say we should take Ben McEvoy from St Kilda before.
He just wants Freo to not try and get picks because he knows that we will get more good WA kids instead of the Eagles. Karl is an idiot.

If the Blues get Warnock, Hampson will be sent to the Gold Coast in a couple of years time for a nice draft pick or two.

It could be worse it could be a premiership winning Brownlow medalist who is your club captain.

Hey Rogerbelly, that post of yours sounds like the intro to a great blues song...
kinda slow to start and then all fast and frantic.

If the Blues want to talk turkey let's bring Clinton Benjamin back - don't think he's played a game for Carlton but he has the size and speed which we could use in the back.
If it's CC (and the Demons) then I'd still stick with Davey and Wheatley. However the Dockers may have left this one too late and there will only be a 'whatever' deal.
I'll never forget sitting behind the Dockers interchange in the NAB scratch match against North earlier this year - Robbie came off the ground and Macca leaped up and gave him a 'finger pointing in the face' spray that was heard 10 rows back. It went on forever and Macca followed the kid yelling at him as he went down the sideline for a walk - it was along the lines of 'support your team mates and put in some effort, or bu%&er off...' - had the kid in tears on the night.

How have they left it too late? I don't want to alarm you but the season is still going.

My feeling is that Freo would probably need to organise a 3-way deal (or maybe more) to get the most from Robbie leaving. Draft picks are an easy solution but most clubs recognise the need to pick heavy before GC - that leaves players. The Taz/Solly deal was quite complicated and I don't think there's enough time to fill the holes that are opening all through the squad without the levers simply nominating for the draft. Add on the admin shuffle down at Freo Oval and it looks bleak.
Something is better than nothing, but a good deal takes time.

Attitude problem, built like a 12 year old and might be a good ruckman, might. What has he done in 21 games to suggest he is worth 1 mil over 3 years?
Glad we didn't give in to his over the top demands, can't wait to see Sandi demolish him next year.

pollyanna, Juddy didn't let the weagles know he was leaving until about a week or two before trade week. They still got a deal done (and a reasonable one at that). The Solly deal was a simple swapping of picks, Taz a little more complex with Polly and Medhurst involved. So long as Warnock doesn't do the dirty and nominate Melbourne as his only choice, Freo will be compensated.

I must admit I have never seen much in Warnock. Even Mundy is not really someone I would envisage building a team around. I figure if they want to go then let em go. This team needs strong characters with the commitment to stay the journey. Neither of these seem to measure up to the criteria.
I may be completely wrong, but I always thought Mundy a bit slow. Others are a big wrap for him and say he has a lot of footy nous and he never gets caught with the ball etc etc.
He certainly does not seem decisive in his contract negotiations at the minute. Maybe it is just his nature. If so, move him on.

Chinaman, I agree with you. I see it this way, Warnock (and possibly Mundy)wants to go back to Melbourne,he is going, he is gone. Why would you want blokes in your team that are not committed to being there??? no matter how good a player they are! and quite frankly I am not convinced we will miss Warnock (or Mundy)that greatly.
