Re:Should have known
bulldogs in 2 weeks then carlton, then port followed by Brisbane.

Seemed like even hase was getting too far ahead of himself at half time saying if they win today and the next couple they'll be back in the hunt.

Re:Should have known
What a let down for the members, If i work like they play i would be looking for a new job.

Start at the top, Fire the board members, we had more loss this year than wins.

Re:Should have known
It's hard to find words for that performance. Only Pav stood up when it really counted. Please, Harves, don't give Murphy or Tarrant any more opportunities - let's hope Mayne is back next game. And don't give me that 'At least Tarrant played a good first half' rubbish. We need players who put in for four quarters and are fully fit. The sad thing is that so little has changed under Harvey.

Re:Should have known
murphy understandable but Tarrant made more of a contribution in his half of playing football than some in their whole 4 quarters of playing football. The fact is he kicked 3 goals and made a contribution up the feild in 1 half and not the second, aslong he gets results i dont care how many quarters he does it in.

Re:Should have known
To smile about? Next wk we should get back Roger, Black, DJ, Matty Carr and Groves: just about a quarter of the team, in other words.

The down side is it'll probably be too late.

Re:Should have known
I must admit, at half time I too was entertaining thoughts of being back in the 8 by season's end. Things were looking up. A disappointing but admirable effort against the league's best followed by what looked like being a 15 goals smashing of the Demons to get the guys up & running. Tarrant looked great, Farmer was lively, Crowley was doing an outstanding tagging job ...

Guess an hour's a long time in footy.

In hindsight, Melbourne's first half was as awful a half as I have seen from anyone, ever. That's not to say that we should have been further in front, but sadly the boys were lulled into believing that they could sleepwalk their way through the 2nd half and still win easily. Once momentum changes it's a tough thing to get back.

I don't know what to think right now. Obviously a lot of people are going to feel the need to vent, which is totally understandable. I'm not going to join in. I'm too numb.
I'm just bunkering down now in preparation for the media onslaught and hyperbole that we're going to cop over the next week

Hang in there, Freo fans.

Just when we start to earn some respect(Last weeks effort),we blow it! (this weeks effort)

It's two steps forward, three steps back with this club.

Until we string performances together, week in week out, season in season out, things will never change. We will continue to deserve what we cop from media, scribes, egirl fans.

Your on the ball Luuc. Sheer abuse is not gonna do anything but harm the side. I dare say I'll be keeping away from the tv/newspapers/radio for a few days.

Re:Should have known
The Cats game hurt as we had the best team in the league on the ropes and just pipped at the post! Today, we looked like we continued on from the effort on Anzac day. Only, to be lulled into the false sense of security with such a handy half time lead...to lose it. I reckon our worst loss ever. Certainly its hurting the most. Feels like ive had two wives leave me in successive weeks (if I was a bigamist that is..)

Re:Should have known
Not sure that Luuc is spot on in saying first half worst seen from anyone in a long time - despite the fact that we might not have looked as bad in the second half as they looked in the first - consider this. We outscored them by 50 points in the first half. They outscored us by 56 points in the second!!

Re:Should have known
Maybe I wasn't watching that closely, maybe it's what you don't see on TV that really matters (ie the "gut-running", the close checking, the second efforts etc), but apart from the clearances and our kicking for goal, I don't think we actually played that bad.

We seems to be continually tackling in the clearances, sometimes three or four in a row, but then they'd squeeze it out to someone free. Sometimes we'd even get the turnover, but then lose it again with a bad handpass or get tackled.

The umps weren't that bad.

I'm just shocked. It's a bit like last year's season. What knocked us out of the 8 was that we didn't beat a single "mid-range" team away from home. We beat the bottom ones, lost to the top ones, but the mid range ones away, every game was an "acceptable" or "excusable" loss. Dogs in Darwin, Pies, Saints etc etc. Each one on it's own wasn't a disaster. Add them all together and it's the problem.

That's sort of what today's 2nd half felt like. Every Demons' goal in the second half felt that "oh well, they got a goal, it bounced right for them", or "it was a good lead/mark", or whatever... it didn't seem to be because of a bad turnover, or some major mistake as it used to always be. They just got the ball and didn't waste it.

We got the ball and didn't do enough with it.

As for the kicking... well it's probably the law of averages. Last week, all bar one of our 9 points were from 40 or so metres out near the boundary. Today we had about 7 shots from either fairly close in or straight in front and they missed. By the AFL site it was 7 rushed behinds to 6 as well, so the true kicking accuracy was 17.11 to 15.16... 17.14 would have been so much nicer.

After 13 1/3 years of this, I'm starting to become disillusioned for about the first time.

Re:Should have known
Pope - I understand Fremantle had 55 possessions in the final quarter. 55 touches across `18 players in 25 minutes. That is nothing short of a joke. We had 291 for the game and my guess is we had about 180 of them by half-time. We couldn't get our hands on the pill and we didn't run hard enought to get it back.

I've had my say in other posts this year and last re Murphy - he's not up to it. I have to say that Mundy is testing my patience as is Michael Johnson. He is getting a game week in week out based on "potential". At the moment he is not living up to it.

Re:Should have known
I don't think Melbourne have been given enough credit for their second half. Sure, they were the bottom team and we were expected to beat them easily but they were a different team in the second half. Every kick was hitting its target, marks were sticking in their hands like they had super glue and every shot on goal was super accurate. It's not like we lost to a team that was playing second rate football, their second half was just damn good, skillful footy under pressure.
We can play that sort of footy too and I just hope we get to see it regularly (and sustained for 4 quarters) for the rest of the season.
