Re:Mark Harvey press conference
Alright.

I apologise...

for daring to suggest an image of Robert Walls nude.

In the same breath as Andrew Demetriou.

Nude.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
OK. Good.

Now you need to apologise for introducing the image of Nana Mouskouri in the nicky noo-nah.

Then we can all get back to talking about football.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
If I can just take this thread back to its origin, for a quick second. I had been avoiding watching Harvey's interview with Walls and Sheehan as I had been told how badly he performed. And that Harvey came across as flustered, unintelligent and churlish. From what I just saw on the you tube extract (seemed to be some slight editing) Harvey handled himself extremely well that night. What's the problem here, I have read a wave of discontent about his performance.

I suspect the wave of discontent came from those who wanted him to agree with everything Walls said.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
Harvey requires some support from his CEO and his President. Not the, "we are 100% behind the coach" tripe. He needs support in the form of the CEO and the President accepting some heat for the players he has inherited. I am not saying the recruiting has been poor or good - its just the fact it has not been Harvey's. Harvey should not be left to have to say that.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
It's hard to know what the best course of action is with the media... herding the brainless is bound for failure, after all....

Drubbing makes a good point there... about those expecting us to agree with Walls. It beggars belief that so many have so much invested in him being some sort of Messiah figure, but it appears to be that way. Perhaps that's a reflection of the standard of footy journalism in the country and only makes me appreciate Mark Duffield all the more.

I tend to extremes, myself... they're so much more definite, after all. I'd advocate a media shutout, which would hurt us short term. Perhaps a statement of some sort from the club admitting we are backs against the wall and determined to work through the issue would defuse a lot... as most seem to want us to admit this, it removes traction from a lot of the individual agenda (s)? we keep reading and hearing.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
No he doesn't, hypen.

I imagine the irrelevant football community is bored with Fremantle by now and has found a rule that needs changing immediately or the game will self destruct.

Knowing who to ignore is what differentiates the Andrew Demetriou's from the competent.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
I just feel that on the back of some bullish rhetoric from Rick Hart at the start of the season Harvey's is now left to fight the good fight, defend his players, defend his club and return serve.
And I have to say I think he is really doing well with all that under the circumstances. But I would like to see Rick Hart pick a few fights himself and take the heat off Harvey.

I reckon at present, he feels like an Abu Grahib Prison Warden; cut loose by the administration.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
You know, the more I see Mark fronting the media the more I love him. In a maternal way, of course. I have a lot of faith in him and he has taken on the toughest job in the AFL. The media choose to take him to task and ask him inane questions instead of chasing up a coach who has a team of premiershipplayers who are limping around the oval like geriatrics.

I would like to see Mark take the 'you can get stuffed' attitude that other coaches take. The media are dependant on footy clubs, not the other way around. It amazes me that toads like White, who think excluding a footy club with 40,000+ members is a viable option, are actually taken seriously by anyone. But I guess there is a skills shortage on.

Whenever you watch footy panel shows or read footy 'articles' always remember that talk is cheap because supply exceeds demand.

Harves is the man.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
Rick Hart made some comments at a function for members who wanted to hear exactly what he said. He didn't go Don King on us and call his own press conference.

Mark Harvey was booked in to a couple of tv shows watched by less people the the local Channel 9 news, he did as well as can be expected and I imagine has moved on with his life.

If I were him, all the support I'd need is Cameron Schwab coming into my office and doing his impression of Robert Walls. Occasionally these people do talk when there isn't an AFL accredited member of the press around.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
These people with no actual knowledge of the club and the things we've achieved are just sad. I pity them and their ignorant positions on a club they have never even tried to understand let alone wanted to.

The only time these people take notice of the side is when we lose and even then it's only so they can pull out the same old cliches. The reasons for any losses or failings are never discussed, only that we are a disgrace and need to start over/not exist.

Clearly these hacks know very little about the game and more importantly our footy club. Their opinions mean very little to me and I've learnt not to take anything they say or do seriously. In this forum we have a medium by which we can discuss our club and anything that may be wrong or right with it. We have some very knowledgable people around these parts who make insightful comments with humour and integrity. I cherish the opinions of those on this site, those who know the side, the game and the intentions of the players and coaches.

Ok I am happy with Schwabby doing a Walls impersonation and to leave it at that. Best not to dignify these morons comments.

One last thing, I want to punch Hutchey in the face, just once but really hard.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
Can anyone tell me if Walls was ever a school teacher at any time because his condescending arrogant manner reminds me of one.
How the hell is it that most if not all these commentators that know exactly what the coaches should be doing during a game and of course are experts Ha ha after the games are all failed coaches??
ps I'm sure all teachers are not as described above so I apologise to any that will be offended by my comments.

Re:Mark Harvey press conference
THe thong to remember about much of the football media is that many of them are ex-footballers who have found the media to be a place where they can earn considerable money without going and getting a 'real' job - therefore they need to pontificate on any topic posible in order to generate a TV show, columns, articles, or manufacture controversies which other pontificators can then comment on in order to justify their existence. Whilst at times there will be insightful comments (I, for example, actually respect Glenn Mitchell as an observer, which may well make me Robinson Crusoe), much of it is simply opinion for the sake of filling the articial demand for football 'news'. And in these circumstances, wouldn't a club coughing up a 50 point half time lead represent a prime opportunity? I suspect that Geelong's even greater choke against the Weagles in 2006 caused a similar avalanche of opinions in Melbourne. And by the time we play the bullies, we will have all regained our absurd optimism..we can win this, and then who knows...
