NSW Rookies
Do we have one currently and if not is it an area we need to look at, given that the AFL picks up the cost?
Also do we send any of our recruiting guys to Ireland to scout some of their talent?
It's been a fertile area for a few clubs like Brisbane and the Carringbush so we should be having a squizz as well.

Re:NSW Rookies
There's a reason the AFL are footing the bill - most NSW players suck.

Re:NSW Rookies
I thought we'd put a 15 yo on our project list last year, or the year before?? Maybe not.

Re:NSW Rookies
Fremantle have got a junior club in NSW that they sponsor or partner or whatever they call it.

Chris Smith is from Brisbane? Is that the same deal?

Re:NSW Rookies
OK, in the 2006 season we selected two players from the North Shore Bombers - Max Wilson and Matthew Long. They were both 16 then, so I assume now they would be 18. These guys are still with us, the NSW scholarships can last up to 3 years, so this will be their last year. At the end of this year we have to decide if want to draft them.

Apparently Matthew Long is a 190cm athletic player, who at 16 was the age champion in the 100m, 200m and 400m sprints and was also a good high and long jumper. Last year, he came third in the B & F for the U-18 North Shore Bombers. Not sure what he's doing this year though, doesn't seem like he has played any games yet.

Max Wilson is a young ruckman, who from all reports is a genuine chance to play at AFL level. He won a rising star nomination a few weeks back after several strong performances in the seniors, and recently played for NSW in the under-18 championships.

Re:NSW Rookies
Just following on with Max Wilson. At the U-18 Div 2 Championships, he was named in NSW/ACT's best in two of the three games.

Also Jason McCartney (AFL Youth and High Performance Coordinator) had this to say about him "A strong, big aggressive ruckman, he adds so much to this team. He really leads the way with his physicality."
