Interchange
In the interests of kooky theories during byes, I've got one for the over the top interchange situation.

He's done it with everything else, so I'm going to assume Mick Malthouse will take interchange rotations to a ridiculous level and force the hand of the AFL into making a rule change.

The players have to wear on their boot (or somewhere else if that's going to be a problem with kicking) that the ponces who belong to tennis clubs have on the laces of their sneakers which has in it the same thing that is in the train/bus smart rider thing.

For a player to run on or off, he has to swipe his foot past an interchange station. If a player goes onto the ground without a player going off, a big red light flashes so everyone at the ground can see it. Stopping the Swans from cheating.

It would also mean you could control things like, the number of interchanges made in a quarter.

Personally, if they were going to have rules, I'd like to see a maximum interchange for each player rather than the whole team. So each player could come off maybe 5 times in a match.

If you're not sold, down the track it could also be used to administer electric shocks to players crossing the line when they're not supposed to and, for those South Fremantle performance based types, you could pay the player by the minute they are on the ground.

Re:Interchange
Surely you dont believe that system would be better than paying someone to stand around with a clipboard waiting for a team official to hand him a slip of paper with a couple of names on it do you!!

If you believe that you would also believe an overated CHB should be in the Hall of Fame!!!

Re:Interchange
Sooooo...

you want to add a smartrider to the boundary rider?

We'd be better off having a turnstile at teh interchange gate. just to add to the fun and ensure player safety, make it an inflatable turnstile.

With clackers.

Re:Interchange
once you get the smart rider happening the collingwood players would graffiti the mcg.

Re:Interchange
anyone see the press coverage about Freo's last qtr fadeouts and below average numbers of interchanges in the last qtr? Interesting...

Re:Interchange
If a smart rider has a 'special cuddle' with a boundary rider, do you think they will produce a smart boundary rider?

Could be worth a try.

Re:Interchange
You have to hand over a note to get on to the ground now.

No problem for Kerr... I hear he has plenty of notepads.

Re:Interchange
It's simple really. If you have too many players on the field you lose your score till then in that quarter. If you haven't scored then its an automatic (lets say) 4 goal bonus to the opposition.

Re:Interchange
Good to see they are not afraid to change rules willy nilly in the middle of the season. I can't wait to see the Kangaroos lose points because they break the rule against the Swans later in the year.

Re:Interchange
I like the way they've managed to bring in two more umpires. Get ready for fun and excitement when we have whistles from the bench to pay free kicks when the bloke waiting to come on inadvertently puts his toe on the line.

Re:Interchange
So they are employing someone to more stringently control the interchange...but if he buggers it up then they'll pay a free kick.

Here's where I get confused. If someone has made a mistake and let too many players on the ground, how will they know there is an extra player on the ground any differently than with the previous system.

I guess it sticks to the assumption that Sydney just made a mistake.

Re:Interchange
On that point...

If this master plan to is to stop the the infringement happening in the first place, by taking Interchange control away from the teams, then why the hell is a penalty being tagged to it?

We're just back to where we started, except the AFL have introduced new and more complicated ways for the system to get buggered up.

I haven't seen a knee jerk reaction policy as useless as this one since I received a govt fridge magnet in the post.

Re:Interchange
Do you get maximum payment if you don't tag off ?

Maybe they should put a tag on the ball as well so that the ball and the players are registered when they pass between the goal posts. No more bad decisions on weather it is a goal or a point
ala North Melbourne / Sydney Swans game

Re:Interchange
ok apparently the penalty for such an infringement will be a free kick and 50m penalty from the centre of the ground.

So when someone is about to kick a goal from point blank range, the strategy for the opposition will be: send on the "illegal" 19th man, and instead of a shot on goal from point blank range, it will be a shot from 50m from the centre.

probably still a goal, but crazy nonetheless!!

Re:Interchange
point less... fifa have just trialled a ball with a chip in it at the under 17 world cup which lets the ref know when the ball has crossed the line so you might not be too far off the mark there.

Surely interchange is not that hard. One in, one out. Bouncers apply the theory all over the place each and every weekend.

Re:Interchange
About time too. I'm sick of going to the under 17's soccer matches and seeing incorrect decision after incorrect decision. It's enough to turn you off the game.

But for those technophobes and fare dodgers, try this idea (inspired by the good folk of South Fremantle).

A team has 18 caps. You go off, you hand you cap to the bloke coming on. If someone is running around the ground hatless then you tell him to get off the ground.

Re:Interchange
Baldy Fraser certainly isn't going to argue from a Collingwood point of view.

That, Mr Smiley, is why Canadians should never be allowed to play Aussie Rules. They have no respect for our interchange laws.
