Nope, just seems logical to strengthen our weakest area of the field with our top draft pick. Time will tell.

With Pav playing up the ground more often and Haselby and headland back this should help out the midfield cause a fair bit. Palmer, Ibbo, Mayne, hinkley also have a lot of upside to them and Schammer has really come along in the second half of last year. I think it would be best to get Natanui with pick 3 as he could be a real bonus up forward while he develops. I think it would suit us fine to get a couple of really good midfielders with 21 and 24. Natanui is the exception to the rule tho. It goes without saying that midfielders are the priorty if nick is gone by 3 but he is our man if he's there.

Everyone seems to have forgotten Foster in this talk about the midfield - he has a first class football brain and an ability to link the right guy at the right time. His form with the Sharks was wonderful this year - until he was injured. Backs are funny things - hope it has healed well for him.
With all these guys in the midfield (plus Hase and Desi back) and two new coaches responsible for the group, I would think that forward and back is the area to look at in the draft. Run around all you want in the middle of the ground, it is the ends where points go on (or are held off) the board.
Jetta, Yarran, Walters and Hill.

brinjol that was the first problem, pav having to play up the ground more, because our midfield lacks penetration, then our forward line suffered. imagine what pav could kick per season if he had decent delivery into the forward line, thats why we need midfielders. Rich is and will be a class act, is he is available get him.

Midfielders, a ruck prospect and a big monkey for the backline is what we need. Nick has Freo written all over him. I am a bit concerned that Rich was so easily tagged out of games at times this year. Basically I think there is always a question mark over most of the young kids and you can't always tell who will take it up to the next level. I would like to get Cockie in a late pick or rookie list he looks like he has a bit of desperation about him.

I agree with the above but we also need to keep an eye to the future when Pav, Tarrant, Grover and Co have retired or on their way out. We need a couple of tall blokes to learn the trade too.

I find it strange that people think a full back is a priority. Our backline is one of the best in the competition and I see Grover as being in the top 5 stopping backs of the comp. Do you think we need a bigger guy to stop Riewoldt? You need a decent midfield to stop Nick Riewoldt.

hypen, Grover isn't getting any younger and we'll need someone ready to replace him in a few years time. Talls don't develop over night. With 8 senior spots available, there's plenty of room to fix the midfield and grab a couple of talls for the future.

We've got that tall kid Connelly with the 1.5 metre 'bouffant' (that refuses to fit in any picture) already. If he takes the head shave over the summer (like his new WAFL coach) he will be classified as a 'medium sized' rookie ruckman - then we'll need another tall.

Have a think about Jarryd Redden (SA ruckman) and a bloke called Jayden Post (CHB)

I'm not sure about Jarryd Redden. He sounds like he could be the leader of The Forth Reich, the movement to spread ginger throughout the world for thousand years.

redden is a good one, I had a long look at him. I have a feeling he will go in the third or fourth round, but i think freo will look for small quicks before looking at tall backs, with johnson and McPharlin both with a good years left in them, and dodd and drum looking to push for KPP roles down back.
