Greetings to all, big number, 1546 isn't it.
That's the number of games experience that we're losing from known retirements and trades. Sure, not all of them played all those games for us, but still an impressive departure of experienced players from the club.
Bell 286 Black 192 J Carr 188 M Carr 162 Farmer 249 Johnson 208 McManus 228 Webster 33
Not sure if I've missed anyone.
Leaves Tarrant at 198 as our most experienced player and ROGER HAYDEN (can this be right) as our oldest player.
Interesting eh?

And furthermore, the media have defined 28 as 'aging' which means:
Grover, Hayden, Solly and Taz are already there with: Des, Hase, Pav and Luke reaching uselessness next year.
We have been forced to accept the losses this year - do you really think, with a bit of momentum, that the same focus won't occur next year? According to this criteria Grover, Roger, Solly and Taz should 'do the right thing' and get lost before preseason, with Des, Hase, Pav and Luke only around for another year. The year after that Sandi and a bunch of others might as well be gorn as well.

The difference is they still contribute. Age is only relevant if you've reached the peak and are on the quick slide down.

Oh i see, so now Farmer was not contributing? You should have quit whilst you were behind.

Try explaining that to Tambellup 33, who played 20 games this year and contributed a lot.
The way the media read, you'd think he was suspended the entire season.

How do the figures compare with Damian Drum's second year clean out of senior players?

To develop this further, given that we have 22 players playing 22 games in a season, this equates our players getting 484 games of experience in each year. As a consequence, the loss of experienced players adds up to 3.2 years of total AFL game time coming off our list!
The up side is that this creates opportunities for our young guys and so far that seems to be paying dividends.

Bell 286 - Palmer Black 192 - O'Brien J Carr 188 - Crowley M Carr 162 - Duffield Farmer 249 - Browne Johnson 208 - Ibottson McManus 228 - Mayne As good as these champions have been we have the cover to move, with opportunity they will be more than a replacement.

The players can be replaced, no doubt, and I hope they are suitable replacements.
I think you underestimate the intestinal fortitude required to string together a 200+ game career.
Browne for Purple jesus is a very long bow to draw...........

The way we've been delivering the ball into the 50 most of the year, it's handy to have a crumbing forward down there.
We had one til recently and let him go before we looked around and saw we didn't have a spare one. Or even bothered to find another.

Who covers for Crowley when Crowley covers for Carr?
Can someone check if there is a 'Who' in the draft, maybe a 'Watt' would have been a better option.
(apologies to Laurel and Hardy)
Regardless gaayathrry, the original question still stands as Crowley is far from a newcomer. This on top of the Farmer error is making your argument sound as convincing as some of the pre-election promises that are going around at the moment.

all i am saying is that ever since crowley became the number one tagger, carr's importance has been minimised, and next season i feel that ibbotson will become a shut down player in the ilk of crowley. If we pick up rich then it was also help hasleby fit into teh team without the pressure and expectation to perform straight away.
I feel we have the players to cover, they just need to be given an opportunity to perform. i .e duffield.

I think Laurel and Hardy did it first in one of their silent movies but no-one ever heard it!
Thanks for the correction, you're spot on!

Gaayathrry, this is becoming even more confusing. If Crowley is replacing Carr and Ibbo is replacing Crowley, wasn't Ibbo also replacing M.Johnson... there's a hole in my bucket dear Lisa, dear Lisa,
(Sorry gaayathrry, I'm bored, I know what you're trying to say)
