Re:The Hackdorn
Yep, Drubbing, we (unfortunately) witnessed that friendly chat this evening, too. How glaringly obvious is this bias in the media that we have to put up with eternally??? Even today's cover of the sports section had me seething and things didn't improve when I turned the page to read how we've hit 'rock bottom' and are 'torn to shreds' only to be told that the Wet Toast are on the road to recovery and have a rosy view of the future!!!! Are there enough medals for all these buffoons?

Courtney Walsh again today in the Australian.
The now widely reported notion that we booed our team off the ground.
The fact that West Coast could be excused after bruising and battering derby, whereas we had no excuses. Which later in the article the facts of Headlands injury and our inability to rotate due to the loss of Soloman.
We choose to read this newspaper to avoid such bias??

Re:The Hackdorn
There was a good example of the agenda some people in the media have during the post match discussion on ABC radio on Sunday. Gwen Bitchell felt the need on a couple of occasions to mention, as he described them, "media rumors" regarding the relationship between Mark Harvey and the players during his time as an assistant at the Bummers. Bitchell was implying that Harvey and the players didn't get on too well and this was why he hadn't ended up as the head coach at the Bummers.

I'm certain if Joe Blow called Sports Talk on Saturday morning and offered up a few rumors Bitchell would be quick to hit the dump button. Yet he seemed very happy to feed his rumor about the new Freo coach to an audience consisting of largely angry and disgruntled Dockers supporters. Thankfully Judge and Dorotich ignored it.

Re:The Hackdorn
I've heard Bitchell's inane ramblings, but he don't get anywhere near getting Hagdorn votes.

He's just another sports journo that doesn't just report things and give opinions on them, he does what New Idea does, and spreads gossip as if him spreading it gives it authority.

Even so, I wouldn't be surprised if Harvey rubbed a few people up the wrong way. Try and find a coach that never has.

I am reminded of the surveys in which journalists appear below used car salesmen on the credibility scale. You know the difference between a used car salesman and a sports journalist? At least the used car salesman knows when he is lying.

Re:The Hackdorn
No-one at Channel 7 will ever ask the Eagles coach a difficult question while they remain an Eagles sponsor. It's like expecting Channel 9 in Melbourne to give Mick Malthouse a serve.

It's a blatant conflict of interest and the lack of scrutiny from the likes of Channel 7 and the Worst allowed the culture up there to denigrate into a drug-addled mess.

Channel 7 would win the Hackdorn every week. However I do have an issue with what appears to be the relish with which Glenn Mitchell likes to stick the boot into Freo. His comments regarding the crowd leaving before the siren were verging on the hysterical. I also remember an exchange he had with a young footy follower that had rung up to ask a question. After the question it went a bit like this:

Glen: So which football team do you support?
Kid: The Dockers.
Glen: (softly, but slightly bemused)Not the Eagles?

I nearly choked on my organic yoghurt.

Channel 7 are a sponsor of the Eagles because they love them, DrJon, not the other way around.

Re:The Hackdorn
Glen Mitchell was on the ABC Morning Show on Monday. A caller rang and made a comment about Jeff's treatment by the umpires. He let him speak then.... not a word was spoken about it. He just moved on to the next topic as if it hadn't happened.

I phoned the same program and asked for the Chris Mayne incident in the fourth quarter ( when he was laying motionless until attended by trainers and helped off the field ) to be discussed. Not a word...

Re:The Hackdorn
And with a late nomination for The Hackdorn comes the peculiar source of Josh Francou in today's 'Tiser:

What a load of tripe

A typical lazy recitation of the same tired lines trotted out by commentators the land over.

I'm always particularly amused by this notion that Fremantle are too hard at the man (and thus can't win). Back in 2002 and 2003, weren't they all screaming that we were a team of runners who lacked physical intensity (and thus couldn't win)?

Re:The Hackdorn
Is the Advertiser a quarterly or something?

Still, some nerve, telling us how to run the club. He doesn't even have hair.

Re:The Hackdorn
Francou said the club's coaching staff, senior coach Mark Harvey and his assistants Chris Scott, Dean Wallis and Peter German, must take the blame. "The playing group seems too worried about being tough guys, as Fremantle's recent tribunal record emphasises, rather than winning the football."

... It just doesn't add up. What are the recent tribunal appearances of which he speaks? And if he eludes to last years indiscretions how can the new coaching staff be to blame? Yep bright spark that Francou, he's on to something there. He may just be Adelaides version of our very own Jako but he sounds more like a langdon to me. Well worth a nomination.

Re:The Hackdorn
Another classic for the Hack himself reporting on Kerr's latest incident.

"Kerr, playing his 150th game after an intense fortnight of unfair tagging and scragging from tight-checking opponents, faces a lengthy sidelines stint. "

Unfair?? boo hoo. Who says it was unfair, you Kimberley or did wooshta say so. Its funny how alliegances can be shown up with a few strokes of the pen.

Re:The Hackdorn
Page 47 of the Sunday Times today:

"Worsfold said losing David Wirrpanda with a jarred knee for much of last night....sapped his capability to rotate against the free-running Bulldogs."

That's strange, the official stats on the opposite page (p46) have Wirrpanda on top with 27 disposals and time on ground of 103 minutes. But it's obvious the stats are wrong because the Hack was over there in Melbourne, saw it with his own eyes and obviously heard Worsfold first hand to get the quote in the first place.

Re:The Hackdorn
I am afraid the Hackdorn winner has already been won. If you were unfortunate enough to be listening to 720 Saturday morning with Glenn Mitchell interviewing Mark Harvey and his comments AFTER the interview was finished makes him the runaway Hackdorn winner.

Mark Harvey rightly got stuck into the media about their negative questioning of Freo. Mitchell the self-proclaimed professional did not make a comment to Harvey; yet he got stuck into at the first opportunity after the interview had finished.

I have never heard a less professional preformance on the ABC than the one given by Mitchell on Saturday.

Re:The Hackdorn
I was listening to that garbage too, Swan. Mitchell has never impressed me - he is a sports nerd with a head like a half sucked mango and a horrible, whiney little voice. His response when a caller rang in and questioned him over exactly what you mention simply confirmed why I think he is the worst (yes, the worst, because he takes himself so much more seriously than all the rest of the hacks) radio presenter in WA. He actually had the gall to try to argue he was trying to defend Mark Harvey and "felt sorry for him". What an aboslute clown.
