I could not believe the disaster that has been created with replacing all the special footy buses with the train. We now have thousands & thousands of people all trying to get to the West Leederville platform at the same time to catch a train home. I queued for 30 minutes after the game just to get to the platform. People were angry and yelling abuse at the coppers and rail staff. What's the rush? You get free travel for 3 hours AFTER the game now. No need for EVERYONE to rush to the train station. Do what we do, and go have a few drinks somewhere first.

That's all part of the experience of going to the footy. Not only do you get to watch freo play a great game*, you can take the opportunity to meet new and interesting people afterwards. For free.
This additional service is put on by transperth for nothing. you should be phoning 6PR and getting them to thank them. Just think, if this imaginary new stadium ever gets built in Cockburn, this social opportunity will probably last a couple of hours or more, as thousands more attempt to get into the only station available this side of Kwinana.
*Great game doesn't necessarily mean Freo won. Or actually played great.

You know how they play classical music at places where they want to stop no good youngsters from loitering? Well maybe they could play Karl Langdon's post game analysis over the loud speaker at the train station after the game. That would disperse the crowd until Graham Maybury came on later in the night.

Heather- yes you can use my postings- no probelm.
Freominx- the rush is that they only provide a few Mandurah trains straight after the game and that is it. It takes me 1 hour to get home to Rockingham beach as it is without going via Freo or Perth. I go up and back on my own so I just want to come straight home.
There was alot of angry people on Saturday night so I guess I am appealing to them to voice their concerns to Transperth more than anything.
Bring back the buses!

Sorry you have so much trouble Pedro. However, I absolutely hated the buses........... they were always packed, I usually had to stand all the way back to Rockingham, and you always had to rush for the bus stops straight after the siren. I find the trains are fantastic, no rushing and we have always got a seat, the trip is a lot faster too.

I thought the train service South actually worked really well, but then again I do sit on the Northern side of the ground and so was able to get on the first train that departed, about ten minutes after the final siren. I should probably have shut up about that, because no doubt the WAFC will increase the price of Northern-side tickets for next season as a result.
On an somewhat related point, my brother came to the match by train from Fremantle standing next to the Premier, and this particular train was delayed en route and arrived after the match got underway. Mr Carpenter was apparently distinctly unimpressed by this, and didn't hold back in his criticism of his Planning and Infrastructure Minister, drawing on the full range of his famous vocabulary to describe his feelings.

Some of you guys might poke fun at this topic but it's not when your 23 year old intellectually disabled daughter freaks out while stuck for half an hour in the crowd and refuses to board the train. While you're out having an aftergame drink I'm stranded in Perth till 11pm. I'm grateful for the trains but expected them to make gameday a more pleasant experience.

I have not caught the train to the game as yet but was planning to so interested to hear people's experiences.. while in general I liked the buses they did get completely bogged down in traffic between the freeway and the ground and especially on the Saturday arvo games when shoppers etc thru subi area... I presume that the train overall is quicker even if you have to wait awhile to get on? Though I am not sure how long the walk is to the train station compared to jumping on a bus right outside the ground... the other problem is the half arsed building approach where you have to get off the train and walk over to the mandurah line becuase they could get the tracks to join up properly.. if you didn;t have to do that it would save 15mins or so I imagine!

sarakoth - I dont think you do have to walk over to the mandurah line, I heard that the Mandurah line footy specials went straight through to the Mandurah line without even stopping at Perth. Can anyone confirm this.

Yes it was a disaster.but,had people moved to the far end of the platform as directed by the TransPerth guards then there would not have been the crush that occurred. Those who wanted to catch the train stood like frightened sheep at the opening to the platform and caused chaos. Even after the people were getting on the trains people stood in the doorways and refused to move to allow others on.Perth people have no idea how to use the public transport so don't bag TransPerth.

Freo people who live north of Cockburn are the new Weagles. You've got 25 squillion trains to catch there and 15 squillion to catch home.

Alvin - I caught the special "Football" train in to the game from Murdoch. It went all the way through to West Leederville without stopping at Perth, and I didn't have to change trains. On the way back (2 hours after the game) the train stopped in Perth on the northernmost platform, I had to go up the escalators to the concourse, down onto the southern platform and walk through to the new "underground" station under Wellington Street. The transit officials were pretty helpful in giving directions. I'd been expecting it to be inconvenient, but it turned out to be far quicker and easier than the buses (where, if I stayed in the stand until the end of the team song and "TNT", I would miss the last bus and would have to taxi it home south of the river).
Oh - the other thing was that even several hours after the game, the train from Perth to Murdoch was still full of purple. What can I say? - they were my kind of people.

Yeah Richmond, stop making fun about a serious topic! We all don’t have the good fortune of the use of the Dockerland Kingswood and VIP privileged parking at Subiaco on game day! The least you could do is spare a thought for us commoners. I can’t believe I fell for the, "You get the Dockerland Kingswood for home games and I get it for away games" deal!
Anyway I am a wrap for the trains. I lost count of how many times when on the bus heading for Mandurah we got stranded in Rockingham. It seemed every second home game we’d pull into Rockingham to drop people off and when we went to get going the bus wheels were gone and it was sitting on milk crates!

I'm somewhat between the two sides of this argument. I agree with anchor man that many Perth people haven't got the foggiest idea about how to use public transport - but on the other hand, there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of Transperth services this year since the introduction of the Mandurah line.
I like to park my car at work near the city and catch the train to the ground. In the past, this has worked very well. This year, however, some bright spark has got the idea to run normal Fremantle services from Platform 8 and the football shuttles from Platform 7 behind it. This only causes delays when the timetable invariably runs into trouble - before the NAB Cup game, I stood in a shuttle train for over 15 minutes before we went anywhere. Surely the solution to this is the have the shuttles go first express to West Leederville, with the normal services next?
As for leaving the game, I hustle from the Subiaco end back to West Leederville and usually make it onto the first or second train departing. I have noted with amusement the refusal of patrons on the Mandurah line siding platform to move further down, which is helping to exacerbate the problems. As are the Transperth staff, who seem to lack customer service skills at times and just shout at people.
Now, I appreciate that co-ordinating public transport to and from Subiaco Oval is a very difficult task and the timetable is set up for split second timing. I generally think the train services are quite good. But the first couple of experiences this year have shown up problems that need looking at.
