Couldn't believe the number of Fremantle opposers who sat behind the interchange bench last night. There were kids around who were looking up to their heroes only to be deflated by the arrogant comments to the players when they came off the field and sprays to the coaches during the breaks. These opposers were dressed in Fremantle gear and it was only for the faithful behind them that they retreated to somewhere else for the last quarter. Hard enough our guys getting bagged by opposition teams let alone Fremantle opposers as well.

I completely agree. It was fantastic when we got behind them in the 3rd, and you could tell by Luke's reaction after kicking that goal in the 3rd that they really wanted us to. I wish we'd gotten behind them more in the 4th, I felt the crowd gave up before they did, and we should have fired them up again.
We were behind the enemy goals and it was awful, particularly some of the racist remarks. Is it just me, or do most of the away teams we play have a lot of antisocial drinkers as supporters? Still, I'd probably drink a lot too if my team had an away jumper that awful.

There is a solution for opposer's in purple. It would work for drunk drivers (as my alcoholic father once said), Presidents and Prime Ministers who invade countries and various other transgressors. Take'm out - tie them to a prominent tree and shoot them at dawn.

As someone who has been a Freo supporter since day one I unfortunately can understand the crowd's reaction. I'm certainly not saying its right and I wasn't one of them but seriously its been many years of disappointment which has led to some short fuses.
As a side issue my six year old daughter experienced her first game as a member ... she cried her heart out when we got home because we'd lost. I've never been as angry at my footy team as I was last night.

Sorry to hear that about your daughter darthmarto - although I can understand where she is coming from, I hope you can teach her that while living the purple life provides some sorrows, there are many more joys.
As for those so-called "supporters"...I seem to remember a post a few years ago where we all poured scorn on Richmond supporters forever keen on devouring their own. Unfortunately, thanks to the cumulative effect of years of unfulfilled promise and a truckload of bandwagoners, Freo people are indeed becoming more like Tigers people every day.
Yes, we're all upset that the team is underperforming at the moment. But if your sole contribution to Dockers life is to abuse your own players, demand that half the team be dropped, and call for the coach's head, then this is probably not the team for you. Would you rather be supporting somebody else?
Or maybe I'm just annoyed by the lady near me who insists on calling the umpires "Ref"...

There is a time to criticise and a time to support. I am a Freo supporter but I have also criticised when it was reasonable.
Hanging over a fence and hurling abuse is not support nor reasonable. There was much to criticise last night, in particular a lack of 4 quarter effort from many of the players, something I have been critical of in the past.
I am sure that the coaching staff will also be making their criticisms known to the players - justifiably!
I do understand the comments re the short fuse, too many people have been let down too many times but for heavens sake people, abuse is not constructive criticism its destructive...on the players, supporters and the club.
Criticise by all means, when its deserved and in a manner that can lead to improvement. Drunken ramblings are best left to those who specialise in chardonnay fueled idiocy, not Freo supporters.

Character building Darth. My kids go to an wc loving school (really REALLY eagles loving), but they have been purple forever. They have been laughed at, jeered, joked about. They have remained true, and learnt that it takes a stronger person to persist through adversity than to follow the masses and take the easy road.
Besides, you can always use winning as a bribe... "When you... eat your peas... stop picking your nose... sleep in your bed all night... they will win."
Your anger just puts footy in perspective - family's more important. Most of the time.

Oh great, Specs. So because your kids don't eat their peas, etc., we're 0-2!
And here was I thinking it's all Gilmore's fault.

2001. Wasn't that the yr we didn't win until round 18, against the poo-wee mob?
I see a pattern developing: infantile delusions of self-control = adult delusions of grandeur at AFL level destined to be brought undone when confronted with harsh reality.
For Freo's sake this year, I really hope your kids have got it together now.

My kids are spot on now Wizfan.. peas are eaten, noses are left alone and all the toileting issues are dealt with. What you need to be hoping is... for Freo's sake, let's hope their kids have it together now.
You're bloody quick tonight Wizfan. Keep up the good work.

Dart....I sit in block 104 (right behind the interchange bench)...usually...but was not at this game. There were at least 6 of us all missing. We all like to get on the sauce and give it to our guys, when deserved, but give them twice as much encouragement, when needed or when they do a good job. I appologise if it was because of us not being there that some idiots used our seats. We will be back in round 4 supporting them over the line to a 2-2 start to the season.

Wiz and Specs I have been a dockers man from the outset and at one time I was quite quick tempered, Being a Purple man I have developed into a very patient man, an optimistic man and actually quite laid back. Being a dockers fan teaches the kids to get used to adversary and must make them grow up to be better adults than the snorters offspring even if they do take a while to become potty trained.

Thanks Jester & Specs, the funny part was on sunday at a family get together the grand parents, uncles & aunties, cousins, nieces and nephews got into her about being a Dockers supporter (all e-girls lovers ... sad) and how she should go for the E-girls.
Her reply ? "No thanks, they take drugs and get arrested all the time"
Between 14+ adults they didn't have a single come back.
Think she's earned a raise in pocket money.

These people need to learn that taking a loss is all part of being a Freo supporter. A BIG part of it. Especially unexpected losses. Supporting Freo is chastening - it's like an anger management rehab centre. Sounds like they've just checked in.
I'm happy to say that my anger has turned to empathy with the lads, and I can now leave a losing game without needing to break something.
My boy, however is not responding too quickly - I have a bruise on my bicep to testify. More intense treatment required.
