Early trade deals involved Carlton repeating the number 24 like a bad collaboration with Yoko Ono but Fremantle refused to budge and wanted more than Carlton's second round pick in the hope they could sucker the former salary cap cheats into giving the Dockers their 6th draft pick.
To their credit, Carlton spent so long without first round draft picks due to AFL sanctions against them, they held onto it like Steve Silvagni to a paper bag full of cash. Fremantle held their nerve though and managed to wrangle pick 56 out of the Blues to provide them with much needed players, after the post season cull.
To help them save face, Fremantle agreed to swap pick 69 with Carlton for pick 72 a deal which in 2006 would have seen Ben Warren Zillmere Eagles Football Club swapped for Andrew Collins from the Bendigo Pioneers.
Fremantle now head to the draft on Saturday 29th November with picks 3, 21, 24, 37, 53, 56, 72 and 85.
In a nutshell: Warnock and pick 69 to Carlton. Pick 24, 56 and 72 to Fremantle.

He he he he he. But Shane, what was so bad about the Dewey System? Carlton may find it a long time before they turn Master Beanpole into a genuine first pick ruckman. They'd have been better advised to pay him in Zimbabwian dollars. This time let's make all our draft picks count. |

An unsuspecting Carlton has been diddled into taken an injury prone, skinny dinosaur with bad knees and a pea heart in what experts are declaring the greatest con since the dewey decimal system. Fremantle played silly buggers with Carlton all week long, to keep up the illusion that they wanted the former late draft pick-up but at the last minute, dropped the charade and pulled the carpet out from under the most wooden spooned team of the decade.
