Tribunal Gives Freo a Touch Up | Print |

Fremantle took the extraordinary step this season of not playing Troy Cook in the pre-season to avoid the AFL's traditional game of Ping the Muscular Black Man to Set an Example but, with Cook and Byron Pickett on the  sidelines they've worked their way down the list and decided to pick off Jeff Farmer and Michael Johnston - or more specifically, Jeff Farmer and Michael Johnson's arse.

Farmer is the first player to see himself given a 6 week suspension (4 if he falls into line and accepts their decision) because he did something that looked a bit iffy. With no evidence at their disposal but a warning to be sent, the AFL have out done themselves in cooking the books to, not only see Jeff Farmer suspended, but given a penalty usually reserved for hitting the umpire over the head with a chair. In this case, the video shows Farmer touching Pratt on the head - freeze framed and blown-up x30, there is the chance that one of Farmer's fingers may have rubbed against Pratt's eyebrow.

We all know Michael Johnson is guilty of having a big arse. It's not a secret, anyone who isn't clinically blind can work that out. So when Hansen ran into that arse, and knocked himself over, it's no one's fault other than Hansen. Giving Johnson 3 weeks for someone else's stupidity is like suspending the sun because a player looked into it and hurt his eyes.

Dean Solomon, who could best be described as the fairest of the three players, was given a reprimand for his collision with Brent Harvey and will be free to play in round one.

The Dockers will contest the other two charges and Johnson and Farmer will fly to Melbourne to plead their case.

Michael Johnson -  Forceful Contact -  4 weeks  (3 for guilty plea)
Jeff Farmer – Misconduct – 6 weeks (4 for guilty plea)
Dean Solomon – Striking - Reprimand
