He?s an amazing dog! After four months on the sidelines the magnificent Sheriff has made a stunning return to racing at Cannington. Last Saturday night he did the undoable. He was not entitled to win and had everything against him. The super Sheriff, who never ceases to amaze, has gotten underneath our guard and gotten up at $16. And he didn?t just win, he absolutely crapped it in. Straight up from box 8 you?re a horrendous chance. You virtually rule a line through your chances straight away. Combine that with the facts that the Sheriff hadn?t had a start in four months, he had just one trial over 300 metres, he was in a slick hot field, was up a grade from his last run and is now over 4 years old then you can see why he was deadset no chance! He was a thousand to one. Sheriff Austin did nothing drift in the betting. When the lids opened he made the price look ridiculous. He went straight to the front, kicked away down the back and bolted in to win by almost four lengths. He won like an odds on shot. We?re extremely happy to report that he has pulled up a treat. He has actually worked beautifully since and has thrived on the return to the track. However, given how well he is doing we still don?t want him over doing it. We want to have the Sheriff around on the track for as long as possible so he is having this week off. He will be getting the appropriate work but just won?t be racing this weekend. There?s a reason behind the move other than just being cautious. Come Saturday the 21st October we enter the Schweppes All Stars which is probably our one last chance at a feature race with the Sheriff. The All Stars is a scorching hot series which attracts some very slick dogs from intestate. With a final carrying a $30,000 (possibly more) plus purse to the winner you can imagine the top liners that will be coming across for it. However, after Saturday night just gone I don?t think anyone will completely write the Sheriff off ever again. |
