Sheriff on wrong end of the Slide | Print |

The Sheriff?s career appears to be nearing and end or at least and end in top class. He seems to have lost a touch of his brilliance which, given he is about 48 years old, is understandable and to be expected.

He jumped from the atrocious box 8 last night at Cannington in what was a very slick field. Initially he gave dockerlanders some hope when he jumped nicely but then the box 8 position kicked in and the Sheriff failed to get across the field and was kept out wide. When he was shuffled back to near the rear of the field he was never going to run those dogs down, especially as the winner improved five lengths on its best time running a slashing 30.39. Sheriff ended up finishing a decent sixth.

The bright side to last night is that there could still be a win left in the old Sheriff. While he failed to show up in his race, he did run a time of 30.94 seconds which, given the grade difference, on the night would have won roughly 5 other races. So if he gets down the grades then he might sneak one more victory for the dockerland Syndicate before he hangs up the muzzle for good.

On another topic, Greyhounds WA have to be highly congratulated and applauded on their new website. Their decision to put the race replays on the site free of charge is a magnificent idea. Nobody markets the sport of greyhound racing better than Greyhounds WA. They clearly lead the nation in that area. Free racebooks and replays arms the punter with the best form possible.
