In another cruel post season swipe at the Indigenous Player of the Century, Jeff Farmer, the AFL have sent Fremantle a set of fixtures for 2009 which sees them play just one game in Melbourne, outdoors, for the coldest part of the season. A serial victim of hypothermia, many saw the change in the traditional fixture technique of sending Fremantle to the coldest parts of the country every July as a deliberate attempt by the man to keep Farmer down. After cracking down on head injuries and spinal injuries in the past year, this season they're looking to protect players from skin cancer, with Fremantle only getting to play in the sun 4 times, which should be quite a bonus for Scott Thornton and semi-interested Victorian television viewers.

For some reason the AFL are quick to point out the exciting news that Fremantle will play 11 home games this season, with one other game at Subiaco for the Derby. Which, giving them the least amount of games in their home state, along with the mob up the road, makes you wonder what they thought about trying to get away with.

Fremantle will start the season at home this year, playing the Western Bulldogs on Grand Prix Day, March 29, for the We Don't Think You'll Rate Cup.

They play two of the next three matches at what they are still calling the Telstra Dome, against Essendon and St Kilda, either side of a match against Adelaide at Subiaco Oval.

Sydney will try and find their way to Perth for a match on the evening of Anzac Day before an away Derby and a trip to the Gold Coast sees Fremantle going two weeks without a home game.

After returning from the opposite side of the country, Fremantle have been asked to back up against the reigning premiers on a Friday night at Subiaco Oval. Then it will be North Melbourne at the Dome, Richmond at Subiaco and Port Adelaide in Adelaide before the mid season break.

Returning from the break they play Geelong at Subiaco Oval, Collingwood at the MCG, Carlton at Subiaco, Adelaide in Adelaide, Brisbane at Subiaco and then the home Derby in Round 17.

They won't get to play last year's wooden spoon side until Round 20 when they take on the Demons at the MCG, home of the unpleasantness of 2008.

The season will end with Fremantle making the toughest trip there is, heading to Geelong to play Geelong on August 29th.

Daylight won't feature heavily in Fremantle's 2009 season. 9 games will be played at night, 6 games will be played in twilight and 3 of their day games will be played indoors.

13 of their games will be played on a Saturday, 8 on a Sunday and 1 on a Friday night.

They go to Adelaide twice, Melbourne 6 times, with 2 games at the MCG, once to Geelong and once to the Gold Coast.

At least we don't have to play at the Gabba or on the postage stamp.
