Clear your calendars on Wednesday July 4th because it’s a purple night for the kids of the Starlight Children’s Foundation. When you’re at the games you’ve no doubt seen those magnificent banners in the stands. Well you all know dockerland Message board user and banner maker extraordinaire, Pollyanna. Passionate full time Docker supporter Pollyana, has done the enormous hard yards and put together an incredible night. Some very significant people have gotten involved as its all for an extremely worthy cause. But I’ll stop rambling and let Pollyanna tell you about the night.
Under a pseudonym (Bernt Porridge) I have been painting / hanging canvas banners inside Subiaco Oval during Docker home games for the past 12 - 18 months. These have been covertly smuggled into the stadium and put up along the ledge of the first tier where gaps in the advertising are. Many of the banners refer to specific incidents - such as the 100% BEHIND HEADLAND or the NOTHING LIKE A GOOD DAKKING - while others are more generic (such as the FARMER IS GOD or the LOVE THE MRP? NOT US! banners). Eac
h of them has their own peculiar history - some have been confiscated, others blown down, removed by Security or by the television broadcast people (etc). They have all been kept / retrieved and will be exhibited at the Kurb Gallery in Northbridge during the first week in July.
On the evening of July 4th (Purple Independence Day) there will be an event to auction all 11 banners beginning promptly at 6pm (doors opening at 5:30pm). 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Starlight Children's Foundation. The Premier, Alan Carpenter, will be the auctioneer on the night and clips from the games and other material will be used in the presentation. Megan Jordon (with her bass player) will perform live music from her CD 'REAL MEN WEAR PURPLE' on the night and video projections by Shane Richmond and Bernt Porridge will make it a night to remember for the Docker faithful. A number of businesses have generously donated goods, services and equipment for the event - if people show up in their Purple Army Gear they will get free beer and pies (still working on the kegs but Four n' Twenty have donated a few dozen pies for the night).

So we’re urging all dockerlanders who can make it to come down and support the night, Pollyanna and the Starlight foundation. Pollyanna really has gone to a great deal of effort to get this night up and going and we wish all the success and hopefully see some large funds raised.
A special thanks has to go to everyone involved but especially the Sail and Anchor Pub Brewery in Fremantle. They have yet again come to town and donated a number of kegs of…..wait for it….. a specially designed and brewed Purple Beer! How good is that? Purple Beer! It’s what I’ve always dreamed of!
So come down and meet up with great dockerland people and fellow Docker supporters and enjoy a fantastic purple beer and a four and twenty pie all while watching the auction, maybe throwing in a bid. Then sit back and listen to wonderful sounds of Megan Jordan pumping out her chart busting debut album, Real Men Wear Purple. The album will be available for purchase and part proceed will be going to Starlight Foundation. If you’re traveling well enough to throw in a donation of any size then it would be well appreciated.
This is a Fremantle night, for Fremantle people put together by Pollyanna purely for the purposes of supporting Fremantle’s favourite charity the Children’s Starlight Foundation.
