The hole Fremantle have been digging their way out of for most of the season got a bit deeper after losing to the unfashionable Kangaroos at Subiaco Oval. In a game that lacked spark for most of the day, the two clubs slugged it out in the last quarter, with Fremantle taking the lead before having it ripped off them with a late Glen Archer goal, running out of time and falling 4 points short in more ways than one.

There’s nothing like a warm Sunday in the middle of July where can pull on a pair of boardies and some thongs, hose the spiders off the outdoor furniture and promise yourself that at the end of next summer you’ll remember to scrape the barbecue down when you’ve finished using it; cheating the winter for few hours and forgetting just how cold it’s going to be when you the sun goes down and you’re still wearing a tank top. 

It makes an even better day if you can find a game of footy to wander over to and enjoy a lazy afternoon watching fit blokes run around in the sunshine while you soak up some vitamin D. Nearly forty thousand people found just such a game and settled themselves in for what was going to be two desperate sides going toe to toe in a fight for a stake in September. ...more
