With 40,000 members on board and a bank vault full of money, the Dockers have done their bit to help a struggling Victorian club by letting the Roos slip past them in a pre-season match. Freo put the breaks on in the third quarter after a tightly fought first half to try and create a bit of publicity for the cash strapped Roos, happy to let some of the spoils fall to a smaller club while they planned an all out assault for the proper footy in a few weeks time.

Fremantle got a shock when they walked off the plane and into Melbourne. An AFL official handed Chris Connolly a note telling them they were allowed to set foot inside Telstra Dome before the opening bounce of the match. It was the first time they’d even been given permission to wander through the carpark there.

Another shock came when they arrived at the ground. As they took their stroll around the ground the players noticed that the surface was covered with a strange grass like substance which, on closer inspection, turned out to be grass.
