While most football club sit on their hands, look the other way and send players to the usual cancer kid wards for some publicity shots, the Fremantle Dockers have decided to get their hands dirty and do something real for the community. With world money markets teetering on the brink of collapse, Steve Rosich has put the club's money where his mouth is and re-signed Andrew Browne for another season.
Browne's hospital bills alone are expected to keep the Western Australian economy in the red for 2009, after 5 seasons on the list for just 27 games.
The move doesn't come without risk though. There are very few muscles in Browne's body which have yet to be replaced with experimental Kangaroo ligaments and there is every chance that Browne could find himself in the unusual position of playing a majority of the season. In the unlikely event of this happening, Fremantle have declared that they are prepared to play him and will inject the eventuating premiership prize money back into the economy as a substitute.
In other news. Calib Mourish and Chris Smith were not given Rookie Contract extensions and would be delighted with any donations of blankets and canned foods that supporters would be willing to send their way.
