Josh Carr's sudden departure from the light appears to be getting worse, as the form Fremantle fringe player arrived at Port Adelaide training, fully decked out in the fruity teal and sundry colours, a mullet on the way and a packet of winnie blues tucked neatly under his shirt sleeve. Carr was recently delisted by Fremantle for conduct unbecoming ie. he told them he was going to bugger off back to South Australia.
But Carr's disgraceful performance of recent weeks didn't end with just that. The signs that he'd gone completely evil were there in October when he followed the well worn path of football dogs over the years in leaving the country during trade week so no one could organise to trade you. Port Adelaide went along with the scam, claiming they wanted to do a fitness test before doing any trades, a claim which appeared less than genuine as the spokesperson coughed and weezed through the press conference.
The plan, it seems was to nominate for the pre-season draft and have Port pick him up scott free (apologies to the Scott widow) - with one small flaw. They don't teach counting very well in Port Adelaide or at Corpus Christi and neither party had factored in Fremantle having the pick before Port. Now, on the back foot, an increasingly desperate Carr has indicated he's prepared to tamper with the draft by refusing to leave South Australia - an unprecedented statement in the entire history of the South Australia Act 1834.
Fremantle, of course, have no intentions of actually playing Carr if they do pick him up, so the threat was empty. It has, however, increased the likelihood that Fremantle will try and draft a young kid from Doubleview by the name of Danny Green, to play just the one match before being retired by the authorities.
