Recently acquired, the Dockerland chaser has performed admirably. Her extremely unlucky first two runs for the syndicate were reminiscent of the Wiz on the field. She was ganged up on, belted from pillar to post and the end result was a double fifty metre penalty paid against her. The race review panel did all they could to throw a charge at her but in the end, as was often the case with Jeffery, it was deemed an overreaction by the scrutinizers and she had no case to answer.
With every move under the microscope and calls from many self claimed experts far and wide for her to be delisted from the kennel, Lagoon Twin; or Dixie as she is known to the syndicate guys, had to escape the overbearing unfair heat and get out of town for a week or two.
The destination was Mandurah. The easy going laid back city of Mandurah was the ideal place where she could escape the cameras and the coinciding insulting headlines. It was where she could relax and just get on and do what she does best without the constant barrage of negativity. Its where, given some breathing space, she could show those who have been on a cruel witch hunt, their imbecilic ways and that’s just what she did.
Being placed out in box seven the task was an enormous one. Her chances were measured to that of Jeffery Farmer on the possibility of being awarded a free kick. But like the Wiz himself, it’s when under pressure and facing the impossible, those that give their all begin to shine. Lagoon Twin, in the spirit of the Wiz, sized up her more experienced and pacey opponents and worked out an angle. The lids opened and the Farmer magic happened. Several of the runners flew out looking for the early lead while Dixie ran her complicated plan over in her mind biding her time on when to put it into play.
Cruising along efficiently the purple chaser, in the blink of an eye, seized the moment and went bang! Like the Wiz with the ball with four opponents between him and the goals, Lagoon Twin took off and cut across the field making those left in her dust taking on the appearance of silliness.
You could hear the collective groans of her opponents as the realisation kicked in that she was never going to be run down. With the game or race, whatever you want to call it, being in the bag for the keeping Dixie cruised down to the line entertaining the crowd as she took the checked flag thrilling her purple supporters and antagonising the uptight purists causing them to choke, spit out and splutter their Camomile Tea.
After the winning dais and photograph formalities it was time for the press conference. Dockerland Syndicate trainer Jack Fleming fronted the media.
Fleming described Lagoon Twin as an "extraordinary greyhound" and said he saw no reason why the enigmatic chaser didn't have her best racing ahead of her.
"I just want to find out whether she can get better at her age," Fleming said.
"We are seeing things unfold at the moment, you are seeing Olympians at 30-plus years of age winning gold medals, I'm not sure why greyhound racing is any different.
"James Hird won a best and fairest at 34, and I think (Shane) Crawford and Matthew Richardson and these sorts of guys are having great seasons at their age and they are two or three years older than her.
"It comes down to pride, preparation, fitness, discipline - all that."
Lagoon Twin has had three starts for the Dockerland Racing Syndicate returning one second and a win tonight. The syndicate members and all supporters were thrilled with the win and scoff at the suggestions her time is up. She showed tonight that she still wants to be out there, she occupies the ability and she still has the magic. Why would you contemplate ending a career when she has just run in career best form? She may not win us a Perth Cup but she is a vital part of and a contributing member of the kennel and she deserves to go on.
So with all that been said its lucky we have Jiving Jack Fleming coaching Lagoon Twin and not the Fremantle Football club because with the above mentioned support, Lagoon Twin would be the newest member on the Greyhounds As Pets program in a couple of days time and we would be told the parting of ways was amicable and to remember her as a great greyhound.

Re:A Much Needed Spirit Lifter
lemon Sep 05 2008 00:55:30 for those not aware of syndicate and jimmy the greek goings on, greg, after the first few doggies went slower than a eagle player walking to a drug test, dipped into his own stable to give the syndicate a boost. he didn't have to and it's out of his own pocket so thanks greg for a a very generous gesture. i didn't back it and a quick read through the post race comments had the bitch compared to richo so i'm not sure i could ever back it. good luck with the pups and i suggest we name them all after the purle jesus.
