The West Coast Eagles came to play a Derby to take home the local bragging rights for the rest of the year. Fremantle came for a round 16 match for 4 points. The Eagles threw the lot at the Dockers. They tried their best football, but that didn’t get them very far. They tried hitting blokes off the ball, with better results. They tried diving and ducking, with some success there too. The best it could get them though is a couple of points up against the well drilled, purple killbots. Fremantle phoned it in for much of the game and, like an Indian telemarketer, Fremantle were having difficulty getting rid the persistent Eagles. So Ross Lyon took the handbrake off for the last quarter and made sure everyone knew who the undisputed champions of Western Australian football are. They put on an unprecedented 8 goals in the last quarter with such ease that even John Worsfold was blushing (and he was able to keep a straight face while claiming he didn’t know Ben Cousins was up to anything). When the final siren sounded, Fremantle were 28 points up and the Eagles supporters were regretting their decision not to leave early and beat the traffic.
