It’s always good when you go to Adelaide and it rains, like God is crying for you in sympathy. It poured and poured but the locals still showed up, their mullets cleverly designed to funnel the water away from their faces and down their backs. Fremantle were lucky enough that Nat Fyfe had spilled his bottle of shampoo earlier in the week, it’s a really big bottle, so Fremantle Oval had been the perfect place to practice in slippery conditions.
The Dockers flew out of the blocks and took an early lead but some very controversial lack of pushing in the back decisions put the Crows in front at the first break. With their winds at their backs and their gander up, the Freo players dug a bit deeper in the second quarter, pegged back the difference and then took a commanding lead.
Freo seemed happy to spend the second half slogging about in the mud that made up their own forward line but found themselves in a bit of strife when Adelaide jagged a few goals and took a very short lived lead. With the scoreboard turning on them, Freo kicked back into gear and cruised home for a 7 point win.
*Except for Tasmania. It gets really, really cold there.
