Fremantle have taken Melbourne a step closer to desistance with a clinical annihilation that saw the game done and dusted well before half time. Melbourne started the game with a flurry, kicking the first goal and looking almost competent but it didn’t take long for the Fremantle machine to kick into gear and before you could say ‘bugger that line for the chips was long’ Fremantle had won the game. The Dockers started kicking goals and didn’t stop until they were up by 10 of them. David Mundy in particular ran amok in the middle but there wasn’t a Fremantle player who didn’t outclass the majority of the Melbourne side.
By half time the Dockers were up by 70 odd points so Ross Lyon called it a day and told the players to start preparing for the next match, even going as far as subbing off Luke McPharlin, and so kept the final margin to a very tasteful 90 points.
