Freo Brave in Flogging

Fremantle's club doctor has rushed off his application for a handgun license after the Dockers match with Collingwood. At this stage, no one is sure if the gun is for the players or himself after Freo lost another half a dozen players, including their captain, to various ailments and were smashed in the last quarter by an umpire assisted Collingwood. Freo were caught napping early in the game but fought back to get within a few kicks in the third quarter but with a skeleton defence (they had literally propped one up against the goal post to mind Travis Cloke) Collingwood edged a head again before a 10 goal final quarter blew them away.

Fremantle flew into town for what was going to be a big match for them against Collingwood. They'd flogged the Magpies at their last meeting, were coming off a big game against Geelong and had decided to unveil their second pick from the draft, Sandover Medallist and the Mayor of Mandurah, Hayden Ballantyne.

His team mates knew it was going to be a nervous time for Ballantyne, not because of the big occasion but he's not used to playing footy at a ground that doesn't bare his name. They weren't allowed onto the MCG to paint over the Chris Judd sign before but they did their best to help him settle, from the trip on the Ballantyen bus, the stay at the Ballantyne Regent and the pre-game nerve release in the Ballantyne Lavatorium......more
